Chapter 74 - Apple of My Eye (1/2)

”Hold on,” he said. Everyone's attention turned to the man whose voice paved a path for him to get to Lily. The young man walked at his own pace with his back straightened and hair styled slightly waved. His eyes were fixated on Lily the entire time. When he came close enough, he took a glass of wine from her hand and whispered, ”Honey, you've prepared a drink for me. Let's make a toast like couples do for their weddings.”

Lily raised her eyebrow, but didn't question the man's intention, ”If that's what you wish for, darling. But it better be good.” Their arms intertwined as the edge of their wine glass touched their own lips.

Karen's eyes were locked on the man's mysterious, yet alluring aura. Her mouth parted and her arms wished to be Lily's as she watched them do the newlyweds drinking toast. How she wished she could be next to such a good-looking man.

”A great quality wine with a beautiful lady. What would make this any more perfect? Ah, crushing an enemy's dream.” His smirk was provocative and very teasing to the audience's eye.

”Oh? The apple of my eye is quite suggestive. So tell me, now that we've drunk the two glasses of red wine, what else is there to avenge me?” Though her blood boiled from anger, she gave Lin Que the chance to explain himself. She knew his personality extremely well, though. Therefore, she wasn't the slightest worried that he would let Karen off easily for targeting her.

Lin Que took the two empty glasses and handed it to the waiter behind him, ”Thanks.” The waiter nodded and quickly exited the crowd. Lily had her arms crossed as she waited for him to take some action. Minutes passed, and nothing was said or done. Karen was getting more and more hopeful that Lin Que would let her off without any harm.

Another minute had passed and nobody said a word. Karen's eyes laid on the man hungrily as he stood in front of Lily in a fearless manner. While everyone would be intimidated by Lily's aura and attitude, he remained strong in front of her. His sharp features and the aura that he had made him very irresistible to many. In this case, Karen's mind already flew to the land where the world evolves around her.

The longer the silence, the more Karen became sure that Lin Que was on her side. Although she didn't understand why he made his entrance by making the odd toast earlier, she focused on the fact that he didn't explain himself to Lily when he could have done it from the start.

'Could I have been this attractive? Even such a handsome, powerful man would fall for me? Even though I don't know who he is, but from how they made the toast, he must be the son of the Lin family! Of course! Why would the Lin family let a witch like her ruin their reputation? I'm in luck! I might be able to replace her as well!'

Karen smiled at the thought of herself being the mistress of the Lin family and having the whole economy under her hands to play with. Her wishful thinking was broken in the following minute as the audience chattered nonstop at the sight of the waiter coming back with a tray of wine glasses filled with thick yellow substances in it.

”Sir, I did as you instructed.” The same waiter from before came back and respectfully bowed with the tray in his hand to Lin Que and Lily's direction. ”Great.” Lin Que held Lily's hands and said, ”Honey, didn't I tell you that my heart would ache if you personally handle rats on your own? Remember? The last time you slapped one and came to me to tell me about it? I applied the ointment on these soft palms. I'm not letting you do the hard work.”

His warm gaze instantly darkened; emitting a dangerous, murderous aura. He turned around and faced Karen's greed filled expression with disgust written on his face. ”So it was you who dared aimed for our family's Lily. Did you expect yourself to get out of here all tidy like how you walked in? Heh.”

His hand grabbed one of the glasses from the tray, ”Do you know what this is?” Karen's face turned pale and the sweet thoughts in her mind turned gruesome. She shook her head and shivered when her eyes met his. She felt like she was trapped in a different dimension where he was a tyrant and she was the peasant. His words were commands and she had no way of escaping.
