Chapter 7 - Maximum Endurance (1/2)
Within half an hour, Chen Mu safely brought Susu back to the Yin residence. The entire car ride was filled with nothing but silence. He didn't dare interrupt her deep thoughts. Inside her head, she was thinking back to many similar situations where Tian Yuo would randomly lash out his anger on her and say nasty words.
'The weird part is that whenever he does that, he would include Karen's name. Could it be that she made up nonexistent things to frame me? Hah, now that I think about it, I never understood a word that Tian Yuo has told me until now. Everything would add up, but why would she do something like this?'
”We're here,” he announced with uncertainty in his voice as he looked at Susu's visible eye bags from the lack of sleep. With her deep thoughts floating like clouds in her mind, her hands searched sloppily and finally found the button on top of the buckle. Although she knew that she would have to face her family sooner or later, her fingers still nervously ran up and down the seat belt strap. Finally, she snapped out of her thoughts and realized that they were in front of her house.
She was in a daze while watching her home from across the street with a trace of solemnness in her eyes. Seeing the unwillingness from her body action, he unbuckled the seat belt for her, ”Do you need me to go in with you? Or maybe drive around a little bit longer so that you could prepare yourself?”
Susu turned her head around with a sweet smile on her face, catching him off guard. ”This is something between my family and me. I think it'll be best if I face it alone. If I stay here any longer, I won't have the courage to even step out of this car. Since I need to do this sooner or later, I'd rather deal with this now.”
Before she reached to push the car door open, she turned around once again and gave Chen Mu a tight hug, ”Thank you.”
For all these years looking after her and staying by her side, she never initiated a hug. Susu was not the type of girl who would open up to just anyone. Therefore, this hug really meant a lot. When her hands reached for the door handle, a pair of arms wrapped around her from behind. Though the hug was short, the warmth lingered on her body, giving her the courage she needed to face the upcoming chaos.
The tight grip of her palms against his arms slowly loosened as seconds ticked by slowly. Finally, she patted his hands gently, ”I'm okay. Trust me, I can handle it.”
”Are you sure?” His concerned voice instantly filled her heart with warmth.
”Yeah. Because I know that even if others don't believe in me, at least two people have faith in me.” She rested her face on his left arm for a little bit.
”Two?”
”You and myself. Since I never did anything wrong, there is no reason to hide from them. Whether they believe my words or not, that is their problem.” She pulled his arms off her shoulders, exited the car, and took large steps towards the house.
The keys to the house felt extremely heavy as her fingers turned the key to the right direction and pulled to unlock the entrance door. Not even three seconds stepping into the house, Susu sensed a high dangerous blow aiming at her direction.
Instinctively, she moved away and used a nearby metal board to block the hit, ”Owww!!!!! You jinx!! How dare you block my slap?!!!” The woman's high pitched scream echoed in everyone's ears.
