133 Awareness 1 (1/2)
Marc's expression turned awful and the lackadaisical look from it was no longer on sight. His face hardened and his disposition changed to that of an alert soldier. He began glaring at Gio too, most likely annoyed by his little counterattack.
On the other line, the woman was only silent for three seconds before she replied,
”I'm coming. There is a faint echoing on your side which means this call is already on loudspeaker mode. Good. Good. Listen up, Marc Goldwin, my dear fiance. Wait for me. I'm only twenty seconds away from your location so you better wait for me. You won't want to know what will happen if you don't.”
...
A little more than five minutes had passed and the two were finally on their way to the laboratory. They left a minute after the woman Gio called arrived. They no longer knew what took place thereafter.
But Sofony's face was cold. She was already away from the pest, but her mood did not recover. The girl couldn't forget what that fierce female elitist had said when she turned to Gio and saw her behind him.
'Cradle-snatcher.'
Yes, that was what that whoever beautiful fiancee of Marc Goldwin called Gio. A cradle-snatcher, a person married or in a sexual relationship with someone younger. The woman must be of a great standing if she could speak to him like this. Great for her.
But the female immoral host didn't like that this newcomer called him that.
While this could be said true due to him being six or seven years older than her, because that woman's tone was clearly full of disdain, Sofony couldn't get it out of her mind and her heart was very uncomfortable. She didn't like how that woman was only short of voicing out that their age gap made them not meant for each other.
That time, she glared at the woman fiercely, but the other seemed to be unfazed. The system told her that woman was the unreasonable but smart type so it was impossible for the other to not take her lightly, even if Gio made her into someone with some status.
However, since Sofony was already angry due to the other man, before leaving with Gio, she told the woman, ”If I were you, instead of commenting on someone else's relationship, I'll focus myself on ensuring that my fiance is not doing something shameful, sickening, unspeakable behind my back!”
Unfortunately, the pest's fiancee did not show any reaction probably because she was not in the conference earlier.
But this fact was also what only restrained Sofony from slapping the girl or hypnotizing her to do something very out of character.
Sofony could not wait to receive reports from the system about this woman's reactions to Marc's glorious deeds. She wanted to see if the other would still be so indifferent and calm in the face of everyone pointing fingers at her fiance who had 'actually' slept with several men.
Again, those who lost almost everything they valued would always acquire an instinct to not let what little remained in them be lost too. They would become extra attentive and caring for it. They also would not let others violate or desecrate it.
In her case, she not only wanted to make him stay in her life. Because she was also seeing him as hers, she didn't want anyone hurting him or badmouthing him. No girl would like her man to be criticized or insulted by any random person.
”You did well,” he said when they were finally in the car. The man complimented her performance in the hall because even though she initially did not know she would be participating in it, she managed to carry herself with poise from the beginning to the end. For him, Sofony did well because she not only withstood the judging gazes of those questioning why someone not in business attire was inside the conference room, she also dealt with the issue regarding the schemed proposal.
Though actually, the true reason for his appreciation was her cold treatment of that annoying bastard...
Sofony shook her head and looked straight into Gio's eyes. ”No. I think I messed up because it's me who caused you to be questioned by that Marc Goldwin. I also showed anger in front of that woman. But you... You are amazing...as always...”
An amused grin appeared on his face. Unbeknownst to her, he was wondering whether she'd be thinking the same once she founds out what punishment had really befallen Mr. Miller.
Out of a sudden, he remembered some of the pictures that popped up in his head when he saw her being pestered by that guy. He really hated the feeling which got into him thus he said, ”Don't get near that moron again,” referring to Marc. ”He's a good businessman and a former special agent, but outside of that, his brain is full of water. He's someone okay talking about business with. But if the topic is not that, it's better to not talk at all.”
He paused and turned his head to her. ”His fiancee is different, though. Amelia Morgan is a very competent woman.”
The girl nodded at the first part, thinking that pest was really someone with loose screws in the head. What he did was just beyond a no-brainer. After all, who picked up girls in that manner? Even if he wanted to go the infamous 'the more you hate, the more you love' route, couldn't he first consider whether that girl's heart was already taken or not? If he couldn't, how about he think of his reputation and his fiancee first? He was someone already engaged, so where was he getting the guts to chase after another's girl? Sofony hoped he'd learn his lesson once he discovers that the way women look at him had changed.
As for the latter part of what Gio said...
'He praised that Amelia Morgan?'
