87 Entry Level Shamelessness (1/2)
'Hey system, when will this skill appear on my interface?' she asked in her mind while clenching her teeth.
Two practice bullets consecutively landed on the target board five meters away. However, both only struck a 5, which could be perfectly justified by the fact that this was her first day of training.
The system's reply made her feel helpless. She'd been shooting for hours yet she only hit 5 seven times. Of course, Sofony knew she was just starting. However, she couldn't help the feeling because she was anxious about whether Clarissa and other hostile parties would wait for her to learn the skill.
”You're doing good. It seems you have some talent for this, Miss Silver,” complimented one of the young men nearby.
All of them were in a very spacious room filled with partitioned off-stalls. Everyone was wearing earplugs and eye protection.
”I don't think so. But thanks,” she politely said before she went back to practice.
Daniel Miller, the one who spoke earlier, didn't mind her perfunctory reply and continued, ”By the way, I saw that you are by yourself. Are you free this noon? I'd love to treat you for lunch.”
Sofony gazed weirdly at the man, her two hands still positioned in front with the practice gun. From what she learned from the system, he was a relative of the Abenson. What was he doing? Why act close to someone he just met an hour ago?
Because of this, she stopped aiming and turned her head to the left, ”Mr. Miller, aren't you supposed to avoid me because I am a Silver?”
The underlying meaning was, 'I am a Silver, don't pretend you don't know because you're the son of an Abenson. In short, we're enemies.'
He laughed, ”No, why should I? It's an honor to speak with someone as beautiful as you, why should I avoid you?”
Either due to the system's comment or Daniel's statement, Sofony almost frowned. But even though she managed to remain calm-looking, her heart was still definitely raging from irritation. It caused her tone to be slightly higher and sharp, ”It's my honor to be praised by someone like you. But my apologies, I already have plans this afternoon.”
”Oh, that's just sad. But fine. I believe fate led us to each other which this means we'll eventually have some opportunities to deepen our relationship. So how about a dinner tomorrow?”
She fired a bullet. But probably because she got distracted, it didn't even hit a 5 this time. She couldn't mask her emotions when she replied in a cold voice, ”No.”
”Oh, it seems you also have plans tomorrow. And I suppose it will also be hard to invite you on weekdays since you're a student. Ahem, how about we both compromise and have lunch tomorrow?”
He successfully stunned the pretty and long-haired girl.
Sofony couldn't help but ask herself why her luck stat seemed to be not working today. Why did she have to encounter someone like this guy at times like this? And what was he planning?
And just because she rejected the dinner, he moved the time to lunch? Is he trying to be funny? What compromise? And why was nobody helping her fend this guy off?
Ignoring the system, she cleared her throat and asked, ”Ahm, Mr. Miller. What do you think are you doing? Are you possibly taking me for an ignorant girl who doesn't know that you're a relative of the Abensons? Don't fool me, please. You won't approach me without any rhyme or reason.”
This time, it was the man who became a bit dumbfounded.
Daniel Miller's connection with the Abensons was a secret even to some affluent families. After all, not many knew they're interconnected through marriage. The marriage was between an illegitimate and unknown daughter of the former Abenson's head and the sickly fourth young master of the Millers. The Miller family never publicized this marriage so not many knew that Daniel Miller was Lara Abenson's cousin. People only knew he was from the Miller, with some assuming he was an illegitimate son of the current head.
