258 6.52 New Mechanical Engineers Employed And Becoming Residents (1/2)
”Alright, since you had given your names to us and already being a part of Fasuto Japan KabushikiGaisha, we welcome you to our big family. Your names would be on a ballot for the 1 and 2 bedroom units just like the rest of the residents here. Everyone is treated the same here, there's no special treatment unless you're of course His Majesty.”
”Learn to adapt yourself to the society and learn to respect everyone. Respect is earned and never in demand. Anything your not sure, please let me know.”
”You will soon have your residency identity card and you're free to roam once you have it. At the meantime, please take a look around this place yourself. And if you're lost, just be Dorothy and follow the brick road. It will lead you here.”
I laughed and it brought down the tension lower for the 6 newly acquired Mechanical Engineers or Mechs and that's what they are going to be called now. The Mechs ventured out for a while bit and wanted to get back to their ships to get their stuff.
For the time being they all were housed in one of the vacated longhouses in the common district and Ruffnut and Tuffnut became their neighbours, so at least they would feel at home.
”Now, there's not much we need from the 4 of you at this moment... But we would just for the Governor of Shimoda to arrive since the treaty did mention of closing up the port. I wonder what significance it would bring to close the port.”
”I have some matters to discuss with the 7 Mayors here, you could also have a look around, accompanied by our 4 Execom members here. You may excuse yourself.”
The reason I invited these ship's members was to actually create an awareness to the rest of the crew that even though I am at this age, I am able to spearhead several things to push things forward. They would be the ones spreading the news among the ports and other ships about both of us kids that were running the show.
In fact, when they looked at the mutilated treaty that was done by me, they were suddenly left speechless and realised that the treaty had some questionable statements.
After going through and seeing an example of how useful manpower was needed to bring in the future, they realised that not only New Kitakata Town or Fukushima needs quality men, but also throughout Japan.
With pay of 10 gold coins which was equivalent to about 350 U.S greenbacks, it was considered as one of the highest in the United States. Little did I realised that the men were paid less than a 100 U.S greenbacks per month. Nevertheless, it was money well invested.
”So Mr Townsend, what else do you have to show us? I'm sorry but we are not interested in your current matchlocks weapons that your men were carrying earlier on but if you have later models I would really like to take a look at them.”
”Oh, these are our latest matchlock pistols and rifles.....”Townsend Harris was interrupted once more and I simply retorted, saying, ”Please send all these to your museums. I don't need a matchlock, imagine it's a rainy day, how are you going to shoot? Use an umbrella over your heads?”
”Look through your library, show us something more useful... Like a rifle that uses those percussion caps, with a loaded magazine. And revolvers too. 5 or 6 shots. C'mon, you can do better than us. Please don't show us those caps and ball or lead shots rifles and revolvers. We need a calibre weapon, if you may.”
