195 5.84 Flames Swirling Like A Dragon On Akai Hanes Kodachi...! (1/2)

”Thank you, everyone, for coming over at the moment's notice. Let's all have our dinner here as we discuss the next order of matters.”

Dinner was served for us and it was fried vermicelli noodles with fish balls, sliced squid, slices of sausages, shreds of chicken with soya beansprouts, mustard leaves and other garnishing.

I handed the Kodachi to Inuyasha which had been covered with a piece of cloth. The moment he saw that he was about to be gifted with something that if his interest, he scuttled over to me and squatted at the bench like a docile little dog.

He took it with both hands and removed the cloth that was covering the Kodachi. When he took the Kodachi out, everyone gasped in wonder and amazement at it when it is in Inuyasha's hands. Inuyasha's gleamed with excitement as he held it in both hands.

”Go on, remove the Kodachi out from the sheath. Let everyone sees it, as it is more special than the Kodachi that I had with me, made several months ago.”

Inuyasha slowly withdrew the Kodachi and everyone heard the ”ssshhheeeeeeeeeennnnnggg” sound as the Kodachi was pulled out from the sheath. Everyone gasped as its not normal for a blade to emit that kind of sound especially when the sheath is made of two pressed wood that had been lacquered dark red.

The moment the tip left the Kodachi, even Hiko-sama said the blade looked magnificent by itself and the dark red on the blade makes everyone wonder. They saw that the blade is rather straight for a Kodachi and had both of the edges sharpened which means it's not meant for parrying or sword fighting with a swordsman.

”I called this 'Akai Hane Kodachi', a red bladed Kodachi. It had been imbued with the spiritual energy that would be activated when used to protect human beings. In the hands of a youkai, it will also absorb their Yoki or their demonic energy like the Sango Tesso and uses it to unleash it along with the Kamehameha that I had imbued in it.”

Kikyo who was sitting across the table gestured Inuyasha to pass it to her and when she held it in her hands, she can feel the Kodachi thumping as if it had a heart on its own. The thumping was as consistent as her heartbeat and slowly the blade turned redder and flickers of flames began to swirl around it.

Kikyo was smiling at Inuyasha and said,”Wield this Kodachi if you really cared for humans and have a kind heart. You shall no longer bully other smaller and weak non-combatant youkai like Shippo and Hachi, for example. A kind heart and a clean soul would only unleash its power like now.”

”Himura, you have made a very fine blade indeed. You too have a kind heart and soul and that's why you were able to forge such a masterpiece for Inuyasha now.”

”On behalf of the team, we would like to thank you very much. No wonder you had been busy today and we didn't know you could forge a fine blade in a matter of hours.”

”Remember Inuyasha, this blade will unleash its true powers in the hands of someone who is kind, not only to me but to others as well. In the face of an incoming threat, when you wield this Kodachi, it will turn into the way as it is right now.”

Kikyo handed the Kodachi back to Inuyasha and the moment he held it by the handle, the swirling flames dissipated and it became a normal red bladed Kodachi back. Inuyasha was pursing his lips and scratching his head with one of its claw as he wondered how the blade can transform back into its original state, while in Kikyo hands, everyone could see the swirling flames of the Kamehameha.

”Eh...? It regains its original state. How come? I do care about humans you know... Hmm, Himura... Is there something wrong?”

As I explained to Inuyasha, I took a fishball and stuck it on the top of the Kodachi and Kirara jumped on the table and began to lick at it. Seeing the comical scene, everyone started to laugh, even with Inuyasha that had a comical puzzled look on him.

”This Kodachi is not something where you would never need a 'Kaze no Kizu' from the targeted youkai. Like how I wielded my Kodachi, I just summon the destructive Kamehameha powers into it. I could use a stick or a stone to do the same too. I had sworn never to kill unintended persons, animals or plant life so this is my destiny.”

Inuyasha was perplexed when I mentioned about the 'Kaze no Kizu' while Sango and Kikyo explained it elaborately for him to understand. When he finally understood, Inuyasha sauntered to me and asked me if I could train him to wield the Akai Hane properly.

Seeing this chance, I told him that I am not the right person to teach him how to wield the Akai Hane, but the person is Hiko-sama that he would like to impart his Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryu. I asked Hiko-sama and he just replied ”Hmmph” under his breath.

Maybe he too wanted a red blade Kodachi with swirling flames around it. Hehehehe.

I looked at Shippo that tries to lift the Kodachi but failed because of its small form. Seeing him in that manner made us break out in laughter as Inuyasha effortlessly lift the Kodachi with Shippo dangling by its handle, while Kirara was trying to grab the fishball with its paws.

Inuyasha patted on Shippo's head while the latter thought that he was going to get a knuckle sandwich from Inuyasha and cowered in expectation. When he felt that his head was patted, he opened up one of his eyes and looked at Inuyasha.

Inuyasha then sheathed the Kodachi back into its sheath and everyone heard an audible click as the handguard made contact with the end of the sheath, indicating that it was securely locked in place.

”Himura, can we try this Akai Hane tonight? You said that the duelling ground seems to have some restless souls and these restless souls would seem to invite the youkai to feast on them.”

”I won't know about the youkai, but I need to cover up my Third Eye over my forehead and over one of my eye like Kakashi Sensei.”

”Kakashi who?” asked Inuyasha at the mention of a fictional name that I had mentioned.

”Oh... Nevermind, we meet here after supper and then we can head over to the northern gates tonight. We would take an exit and entry pass from the gates and then we need to walk up and round that old abandoned cemetery. Shippo, would you like to come along with us?”

”Sure Himura, as long as I could sit on your shoulders. Because I can't walk very fast in these short legs of mine.”

I smiled and gave Shippo a thumbs up and we continued with what's left of our dinner when a messenger came over with two letters stating that they were addressed to the Wonder 8. The Wonder 8 is what we had called ourselves beside the original Youkai Taijiya that was founded by Sango's father.

I received two letters and opened it up since it would reply from the villages that had we had sent on the week before. There was a letter from a small village of 4 thousand residents in Haga District of Tochigi. Their main source of livelihood was agriculture near the rivers of Gogyo which the Yamame fish or Masu Salmon resides.

In their letter, it stated that a giant turtle would be seen in the rivers and destroying their bamboo fish traps and eating the fishes within. It had a knobby outer shell and was seen after midnight when the moon was full.

It was the height of two houses stacked on top of each other and was quite fast-moving despite its humongous size. Its appearance, however, poses a visual threat while no spear or arrows could penetrate its thick shell or hide.

The second letter was also from Tochigi Prefecture and this time it was from Motegi of the Haga District. They were saying a large earthworm-like youkai had burrowed through their vegetation fields and created a few sinkholes in them. Although it doesn't seem to threaten the humans, its burrowing had destroyed part of their livelihood and there's more than one sinkhole that the youkai had created.

Hoshi-sama read the second letter and told us that he could use several talismans to raise the earthworm-like youkai and drive it away. He explained that this youkai had actually evolved from a normal pest but somehow, due to unforeseen circumstances, it had become more than a pest.

The same goes to the tortoise or turtle that had evolved into a humongous size. Somehow these two forms had manifested itself into a nuisance to the community. We signed our names besides the recipient of the two letters and it will inform the sender that the letters had been received and acknowledged.
