54 3.11- The Blubbering Fool... (2/2)
With the ice cream in hand, we both walked on the right after leaving school instead. We were holding on to the single cone of ice cream with either hand and seemed to be entwined together. I was having some difficulties trying to eat the ice cream while walking since Akira was a half-head shorter than me.
It was a very captivating scene as two high school students walking hand in hand with an ice cream cone in the middle. Akira took out her handphone and took a selfie of us with smudges of ice cream on our lips, licking the ice cream together.
She then transferred the photo she took with her mobile phone to mine. We made small talk and watched the children with rosy cheeks made faces at us as we passed by their houses while they played among themselves.
After a short walk about 6 minutes later, we had arrived at Kokiya Nagoya Gyudon Restaurant. It was a within one's budget meal that literally a beef bowl, consisting of rice topped with beef and onion simmered in a mildly sweet sauce flavoured with dashi (fish and seaweed stock), soy sauce and mirin (sweet rice wine). It only costs ¥380 for normal patrons and ¥320 for students in uniform.
Of course, I footed the bill for all food and drinks throughout the serial. What more can a girl ask for since the boy has a bottomless wallet or an infinite amount in the ATM?
During our dinner, I told her about the remuneration bonus package that the President of the Sports Committee had introduced to me on behalf of the futsal team that would be facing the defending champion the next day.
I also mentioned that if we managed to get the Championship Trophy back, I would be getting the sponsorship for both academic and the sports as well. It was like hitting three birds with one stone.
”Ayumi-sama is in the swimming league like me... She does better than me, has a good piece of swimsuit on her that manages her to glide through the waters as easily as a fish... She does that without a shortfin and hand paddle...I thought mine was already good enough and I don't think I would be able to top her in competition levels...”
She lamented to me while poking her chopsticks into her bowl of rice and stuffed morsels of food instead into her mouth.
” Yeah, she even has the cheek to say that 'whatever your little girl can do, I could do better...' and she also sort of said with her wanton eyes that she wanted me to be her boy... *ahem* I mean her... Ah, forget what I said... This meat is so juicy...”
I blubbered the words and changed the subject so fast that David Cooper field would be most mesmerised.” What do you mean by her boy... Tell me NOW! Don't try to change the subject as I am all ears in this conversation... I am your first, I know I am and I am 100% sure in this matter and nothing is going to change that... Even if anything happens to me... I'd be waiting for you on the other side, Shiro...! ”
Oops... Here goes the Blubbering Fool again. This time it seems Akira had blown her top in public and from what she had done this in public and not only in public but also in front of her food.
Omaiga...! (Japanese pronunciation for Oh My God)
It is a taboo for me especially to mention anything that would harm one's health, prosperity, lives even in front of food for food was sustenance to us and was brought by God's blessings. In other words... Bad juju... Bad juju... Bad juju...
I frowned at the thought and wished nothing would happen on tomorrow's Futsal championship. I had to let the cat out of the bag since I spilt the beans accidentally in my excitement to tell her about the so-called 'contract'.
”Akira...listen to me and calm yourself down... Yes, she did ask me to be her boyfriend but I totally and flatly refuse her... (a lie in fact but I hid it from Akira as usual) She wanted to retract back the remuneration package but she didn't do it... I rushed out and pulled you along to get out from there as soon as we can, remember...?
I reminded her and she nodded in embarrassment when she exploded in the restaurant. Luckily no one was hurt... In fact, I managed to persuade her by saying I will reward the money earned in the championship for her to buy as many paperback novels as she wanted. I explained that if the team does not concede a goal and I personally managed to score a goal or two and we emerge as champions afterwards, the reward money of ¥22,000 just based on my efforts alone.
She looked up and glanced at me with her twinkling eyes and a smile crept up across her lips as she was thinking of owning a lot of paperback novels as she wants. Of course, she would feel very thankful towards Shiro for achieving that goal...
