52 Operation Save Pesti: Day 1 - Sound Of Silence (1/2)

Death sighed with relief when I sat up.

I shook my head, trying to rid myself from my dizziness and gradually realised I was on a bed with crisp white sheets. I looked up and saw my brothers standing around me, and the sight of a doctor's office.

War pointed to the sign above the door behind him. I groaned when I realised I was in the academy's Nurse's Office.

A sudden hit of resolve entered my mind. I had to find Small Cap. Death snapped when I abruptly sat up. I yelped at the sharp pain I felt at my head. When my pain eased, I felt something was wrong. My ears couldn't stop ringing.

Keiran entered the room and stood by Death's side. He looked at me with concern and his mouth was moving with words, but I couldn't hear any sound from them.

The ringing stopped, so did the sound going into my ears. I had lost my hearing. My hands trembled as I raised them and signed my demise to my brothers.

Death slammed his hands over my ears and closed his eyes, to feel my situation. When they gradually opened, he realised the truth as a momentary deafness pa.s.sed through his own body due to his empathy skill.

”Famine has lost his hearing because the mind s.h.i.+eld implanted within him has deteriorated. It's all my fault,” Death said aloud, which War translated for me in my mind.

_”Idiot Mother-brother! I can still speak with these.”_ I signed, showed him my hands then signed. _”Plus, telepathy is still possible. So, don't you go giving that pity me, I'm to blame s.h.i.+t!”_

Death smiled weakly and nodded his head. He signed that we had to get onto repairing my mind s.h.i.+eld straight away. Keiran offered a solution to that problem, which involved me attending cla.s.s.

”You leave the issues back at Academy Lane to us,” he said, which War pa.s.sed on into my mind.
