Chapter 71 - Meeting, Part 4 (1/2)

Shun didn't change from his decision of playing on areas that Aomine excelled in, but after Aomine's first score, Shun did increase the level of his effort by one level.

It was Shun's turn to attack, and he wanted to go with something quick and unexpected, and he had just the thing in mind.

Shun made space between his legs and started to dribble between them. Aomine got ready for a crossover or a drive to the basket.

Shun glanced to the left and then looked right into Aomine's eyes.

At that moment, a few possibilities went through Aomine's mind.

Aomine: 'Is he going to the left or is that fake glance, and he is going to the left. How will he get past me; simple speed, crossover, or a spin move.'

Just as Aomine was thinking about the possibilities, Shun made his move.

He held the ball in his right hand, and without any fakes or any dribble, he took a jump shot.

Aomine, who was thinking about a complicated move set, was a beat slower for the contest.

Aomine: ”Oh, Shit!”

The ball traveled a beautiful arc and landed into the net without any contact with the rim.

If this was an official game everybody in the stands, coaches, the bench would think that taking a jump shot was a poor decision and the shot was a fluke, but Shun had not made a single shot without a dribble to make some space in the game against Kise or Aomine, so he knew that a straight-out shoot would be the last thing on Aomine's mind.

Shun grinned at Aomine's surprised face and spoke.

Shun: ”Simple is the best. You thought that I would do something complicated, weren't you?”

It was Aomine's turn to attack, and Shun was going to make sure that Aomine wouldn't pass him.

Aomine started by doing a series of complicated dribble moves.

Kise was watching Aomine's moves.

Kise: ”Aomine-cchi's moves are so cool.”

Kuroko nodded as he looked at Aomine's smooth ball-handling.

But on Shun's side, he was not moving at all. His eyes were following the ball.

He was confident in his reflexes. Shun knew that if he chose the right timing, he would be able to tip the ball from Aomine's hands.

Shun saw that Aomine's hand was in a slightly different position than the position before, so he decided to go for it. As soon as the ball reached Aomine's hand, Shun felt a jolt, and he speared his hand towards the ball.

Aomine was going to move past Shun, but the moment he got ready, Shun tipped the ball of his hand.

Aomine's eyes shrank as he felt Shun get past him.

Aomine: 'Crap! He tipped the ball at the worst timing!'

He bit his lip and turned to follow Shun.

Aomine: ”Get back here. Damn it!”

Shun laughed as he ran towards the basket. He glanced back at Aomine and smiled faintly, as he thought of something.

He threw the ball hard towards the basket, turned back, and ran past Aomine.

Aomine stopped and looked at Shun.

Aomine: ”What are you doing?”

He turned to look for the ball and saw it wasn't there, his eyes widened as he spoked.

Aomine: ”No way!”

He turned back and saw that the ball was in Shun's hand, and he was already mid-air for a jump shot.

Shun had thrown the ball hard at the backboard so it would bounce back, and when it did, he was there to catch it.

Shun laughed as he shot the ball. Shun didn't even look if the ball made it into the basket or not and spoke to Aomine

Shun: ”I did say simple is the best, but sometimes you need to spazz things up a bit.”
