Chapter 65 - News Reaches Teiko (1/2)

It had been a week since the practice game between Aiwa Middle School and Tokiwadai Middle School.

Aiwa Middle School had kept quiet about the results of the game, but Tokiwadai Middle School spread the news faster than a forest fire.

By the end of the week, all schools in Tokyo and the nearby prefecture knew about Kageyama Shun's hundred-point game.

Aiwa Middle School had a strong basketball team. And Hanamiya Makoto was one of the most skilled players in the country, to score a hundred-point in a game against them was an extraordinary feat of skill and dominance.

The whole middle school basketball scene trembled in excitement and awe as Kageyama Shun showed them what he could accomplish on a court.

Kageyama Shun was the MVP of the last Nationals and winner of all the Individual awards, and he achieved all of this as a rookie. He was already on the watch list of all Nationals level schools, and this performance had put a higher caution towards Shun than before.

But the most cautious school against Kageyama Shun was a school within the same prefecture as Tokiwadai Middle School, Teiko Middle School.

At the first-string gym, a group of people was gathered in a circle, some sitting and some standing.

Nijimura addressed his gathered juniors and teammates.

Nijimura: ”So, what do you guys think about this?”

Aomine grinned and exclaimed.

Aomine: ”What do I think?! He is strong is what I think! A hundred points! One-hundred points! I really want to play against him again!”

Midorima sighed at his teammate's antics.

Midorima: ”Why are you so excited about playing against him? You sound like an addict, every time you talk about playing against someone strong.”

Kuroko smiled at the exchange between Aomine and Midorima.

Kuroko: ”Still, it sure is an amazing feat. A hundred points in a game must require constant scoring throughout the game.”

Murasakibara grumbled as he nibbled on a pocky.

Murasakibara: ”I can do that any time I want. It's just a pain in the b.u.t.t to do that.”

Haizaki got up from the group and clicked his tongue.

Haizaki: ”What is the big deal?! We beat him last time we can do it this time. He is a single person, and we have a full team. I am leaving I don't want to talk about that bastard just hearing his name makes me angry.”

Haizaki turned to walk away. Nijimura tried to stop him.

Nijimura: ”Hai-”

But he was stopped by Akashi. Akashi shook his head as he held up his hand to stop Nijimura from calling out to Haizaki.

Akashi did close one of his eyes and looked at the retreating figure of Haizaki.

Akashi opened his eyes and turned his attention back to the group.

Akashi: ”While what Kageyama Shun showed is exemplary, but I do agree with what Haizaki said. Kageyama Shun is only one single player on his team, who can match up to us, with multiple of us, we have every chance of beating Tokiwadai.”

Kuroko nodded and added his thoughts.

Kuroko: ”A team will always triumph over a single person.”

While the rest of the members were talking about Shun., Kise was looking at their faces, trying to figure out who was Kageyama Shun.

Kise: ”Excuse me, can you please tell me, who is Kageyama Shun. I am totally lost.”

All of the others looked at Kise. Nijimura decided to fill him in.

Nijimura: ”Kageyama Shun, a second-year just like you. He is from Tokiwadai Middle School; they won the Nationals the year before us.”

Kise recognized Tokiwadai Middle School as a school in Tokyo, but he didn't know that they had such a strong basketball team.

Kise: ”So, what about Kageyama Shun? What is so special about him?”

Nijimura sighed as he remembered last year's Nationals.

Nijimura: ”We played against Tokiwadai Middle School as our finals' opponent last year. We defeated them, but just barely.”

Kise couldn't believe that the people in this group couldn't manage a clean victory against an opponent.

He had played against every single one of them, and he hadn't been able to win against any single one of the. He couldn't even win against Haizaki, who regularly skipped practice.

The past month had been extremely fun for Kise, so listening about a doubtful victory against another school was a shock for Kise.

Nijimura continued.

Njimura: ”In the finals, Kageyama Shun scored seventy-seven points against us, he shut out Kuroko-kun, and we couldn't slow him down forget about stoping him.”

Kise exclaimed when he heard that.

Kise: ”Seventy-seven points! In the finals! Against you guys!”

Kise looked at Kuroko. He had been in a game with Kuroko he knew Kuroko's playstyle.

Kise: ”Even Kurokocchi was stoped, who is this person!”

Nijimura sighed once again as he delivered the last blow.

Nijimura: ”Even though we won the finals, he won all the individual awards, including the MVP of the tournament.”

Kise: ”All of them!”

Aomine looked at Kise and nodded.

Aomine: ”Best support player, best offensive player, best defensive player, he bagged them all and taunted us right at the ceremony in front of everyone. I suffered the consequences for a whole week.”

Kise's head was rolling with all the information about Kageyama Shun, but the next thing bought him back to full focus.

Midorima looked at Kise and told him a fact about Shun, which interested him the most.

Midorima: ”Kise, there is one more thing you should know about Kageyama Shun.”

Kise turned his attention at the serious tone, which sounded more serious than his normal serious tone that he used consistently. He also found every person in the group looking at him.

Kise: ”What is it?”

Midorima looked directly into Kise's eyes and spoke.

Midorima: ”Just like you, Kageyama Shun can copy moves after seeing them once.”

Kise felt like a bolt of lightning fell upon him. He couldn't believe that someone had the same ability as him.

Kise stood up abruptly and said.

Kise: ”I want to meet him!”

All of them were startled by Kise's abrupt statement.

Nijimura asked.

Njimimura: ”Why do you want to meet him?”

Kise didn't want to say that he wanted to meet the person who had the same ability as him but was so far better than him. He wanted to see what Kageyama Shun did differently to get so good. He wanted to analyze Kageyama Shun so that he would be able to the rest of his teammates and become a regular.

Kise: ”I want to meet the person who has the same ability as me. I haven't seen a person who has the same ability as me.”

The rest of them didn't like to talk about Haizaki, so they didn't mention his pillaging ability, and they weren't going to say about it know.

Kise: ”So, can you tell me how can I get into touch with him. Should I go to Tokiwadai Middle School to meet him.”

Nijimura raised one of his hands to his forehead, and one to stop Kise from speaking.

Nijimura: ”Yeah, please don't do that. You would only make trouble going there.”

Aomine was scratching the top of his head about if he should tell Kise that he knew about how to get into contact with Shun.

On the one hand, he didn't want to see the face of Shun outside the court any more than he had already seen, but on the other hand, he wanted to know how much Shun had grown.

After thinking about it for a while, he came to a decision.

Aomine: ”I have a way of getting into contact with him.”

Kise whipped his head towards Aomine and got close to him.

Kise: ”Really?! How?”
