Chapter 2: Midnight Knock

At the dining table, everyone simply introduced their names.

The brawny man whom they previously encountered on the corridor was called Zhuang Han, a newcomer. The girl who came out with him was about 20 years old, she used a very similar pseudonym to w.a.n.g SanーLi Yi.

As for the underage student girl, her name was Xue Mei. She said that this was her 3rd mission.

Counting w.a.n.g San and Yu Su, as well as the dead man, there was a total of six people, three which were newcomers.

Xue Mei was somewhat dissatisfied with these members. She frowned in dislike, “A total of six players, three are newcomers, and one is already dead. How are we supposed to clear this mission? These newcomers will only drag our feet!”

Yu Su picked up her eyebrows, but stayed silent.

Zhuang Han's temper was not so good. He stared at Xue Mei and sneered, “We have three newcomers, the one who died was from the same room as you. You still have the face to complain?”

Xue Mei snorted, her eyebrows showed her contempt, “You got a problem? He's better off dead. Who knows what kind of action a fool would do if he was alive? You'll see, without that burden, I'll live longer than you!”

Zhuang Han was about to argue back, but Li Yi whispered something to him. His complexion slightly eased, and in the end, he only snorted at Xue Mei and bowed his head to continue eating.

Yu Su had no interest in their quarrel. She put a piece of vegetable into her bowl and was about to bite, however, she heard w.a.n.g San's low voice.

He whispered, “New and senior players evenly split the total number. This rarely happens, do you know what it means?”

Yu Su's chopsticks paused for a moment, after thinking about it, she replied doubtfully, “It means the mission has low difficulty?”

w.a.n.g San's lip curled up and praised, “Correct. It seems that you aren't stupid.”

“…” Yu Su whispered, “Isn't that easy to guess?”

“Shh,” w.a.n.g San grinned, his eyes showed a sly glow, he lowered his voice, “Can't you see the one on my left?”

The one sitting on his left was Xue Mei, who was very disgusted with the newcomers.

Yu Su was about to look over there, but w.a.n.g San suddenly reached her and knocked her on the head, “What are you looking at? Eat!”

Patience. Patience. Yu Su rubbed her forehead and began to chew her vegetable viciously.

The meat on the table was very appetizing, but she was afraid that it was human meat commonly appeared in horror movies. It's safer to be a vegetarian.

After dinner, w.a.n.g San was the first to get up and slowly said, “It's not early anymore. Let's go back to the room and rest early. Remember what the Proprietress said, don't open the door if you heard a knock in the middle of the night.”

Yu Su followed him back to the room, the other three also quickly returned to their own rooms.

After Yu Su finished her preparation to sleep, she looked at the only big bed in the room, then at w.a.n.g San, “Are we going to decide with rock-paper-scissors?”

w.a.n.g San glanced at her, walked straight to the bed and laid down comfortably on the pillow, then looked at her with his eyebrows raised, “Have you ever seen the big brother sleeping on the floor?”

Yu Su, “…” His words seemed to make sense.

The hard floor was equally uncomfortable even with a quilt, yet Yu Su still gradually fell asleep.

As midnight arrived, she was suddenly awakened by a loud knock on the door.

She sat up sharply and looked at the door, only to realized that the knock came from the room on her right.

It was Xue Mei's room.

The knocking on the door became more and more urgent and louder, accompanied by a woman's cry. Yu Su listened carefully and was able to catch some words.

“Help! I beg you! Help me!”

“Open the door, please! Someone is trying to kill me! Please! Help me!”

Although the voice wasn't very clear, the voice's pleading and despair were very obvious. The knocking on the door was like drumsticks beating on her heart, both light and heavy, intertwining without interruption.

Suddenly, a scream pierced the night, penetrated the door panels, and plunged into the ears of the listeners, causing people to trembled!

“Helpーー”

The heartbreaking scream sounded like it would break the woman's lungs. After a few seconds, there was another hoa.r.s.e scream filled with exhaustion.

The knocking on the door continued alongside the cry for help and screaming, recurring again and again.

The room was very dark to the point where Yu Su couldn't see her own fingers, there's not even the slightest light. Yu Su sat in the dark, quietly listening, and trying to lighten her breath.

Time pa.s.sed very slowly. She didn't know how long it took, until the scream, which had been unusually harsh in the previous second, abruptly stopped.

In an instant, all the sound disappeared. It was so quiet to the point she could hear her own heartbeat and breathing clearly.

On the contrary, rather than feeling relieved, the deathly silence actually made people felt more uneasy.

Yu Su was dazed, she waited for a little longer to make sure the sound would not ring again, then lowered her voice and asked quietly, “Big brother, are you awake?”

There was a sound of turning over from the bed. In the darkness, a very tempting voice sounded, “Why, do you want to sleep with me? You're always welcome.”
