Chapter 1049 (1/2)
As Jiang Chen and Evelyn were worrying about the future of Germany, it was midnight in Ukraine, far away on the other side of the earth.
It was late May, and the air in the outskirts of Dnepropetrovsk was getting a little hot and dry.
The old church stands alone among the ruins, perhaps because both sides deliberately avoided firing on it and survived. In the cemetery behind the church, dark smoke slowly drifted up. In order to prevent the plague, the citizens in the suburbs cooperated with the government forces to drag the corpses that can be seen everywhere in the battlefield here, pour gasoline and burn them.
Two blocks from the church is the front line.
The old mother, in rags and rags, wandered along the banks of the dneper River, where the corpses were piled up. She was numb to the distant sound of the guns that had cut through the night sky from time to time. She mechanically touched the faces soaked in the river with her hands and recited trivial words such as ”God”, ”Jesus” and ”no”.
The mother river, which gave birth to the Ukrainian people, is now sinking into countless floating corpses.
Zhang Feng sighed, raised his hand and pressed it on the outside of his helmet.
”A civilian was found in area A05 Who's going to pull her back. ”
After finishing the communication, he looked at the time on his watch. Seeing that it was time to change shifts, he switched the communication to the team channel.
”All right, guys, pack up and get ready to change.”
”Yes.”
Soon, a small team from the civilian armed forces took over the defense area from Zhang Feng. Several militia in worker's uniform put the machine guns behind the shelter, seemingly guarding their posts professionally. However, Zhang Feng was very clear that, apart from the leader of the team, these people might have just joined the army and had not even received serious training.
But knowing this, he said nothing.
What does it matter? Anyway, the situation on the other side is similar. Veterans run out of luck, it's time for recruits. At least the morale of the civilian armed forces is high. They are fighting for freedom.
At least that's what they think.
Out of good intentions, Zhang Feng patted the Ukrainian on the shoulder and pointed to the ruins across the river.
”Three o'clock, the point of government fire.”
The captain in the beige sweater looked across the river and grinned.
”Thank you.”
”Good luck --”
”boom!”
Zhang Feng's words did not fall, the roar of artillery volley interrupted his blessing.
Subconsciously, they bent down to protect their eyes and block the debris shaken from the ceiling. The glass on the window was shattered to pieces. The machine gunner swears in horror and shrinks to the corner of the wall.
”Damn it, cough - what are they doing?”
Choked with ashes, the captain straightened up, shook off the dust on his arm, walked quickly to the window, aimed at the river shoal, and immediately widened his eyes, subconsciously burst into a rude sentence, ”grass...”
Tanks and armored vehicles form a torrent of steel, accompanied by the roar of artillery, from the shoal to the defense line across the river. The soldiers roared ”ula”, held their rifles in front of their chest, followed the roaring steel torrent, crossed the burning ruins, and launched a charge to the positions full of gunpowder.
The Gunners on both sides vented their firepower, and orange ballistics flew wildly over the Dnieper River, tearing the quiet night sky to pieces. On the other side of the river, more than a dozen transport helicopters, escorted by armed helicopters, have broken through the flanks of Ukrainian government forces.
