134 LUMINOUS MOUNTAIN VALLEY (2/2)

All of sudden, the wind whistle as if something fast was coming on their way. They felt goosebumps and cold sweat drenched their back.

”Crap! where under attack!”

Long Fuzi shouted in panic.

Before they could even react, something that looks like needles rained on them. The needles shoot at all direction and the group was caught off guard.

Each of them crushed a pearl-like object and in an instant, a protective shield enclosed them. His action was swift but some needles still managed to prick them.

The shower of needle-like objects continued to rattle on the protective shield creating a sound reminiscent of rain pattering on a gazebo. They move forward warily with the protective shield around them

”The heck!”

They did not expect that they will be attacked by Barnacle Trees even before arriving at their destination.

Barnacle trees are a sentient mystical tree that spits needles as a form of retaliation to intruders. Although being pricked with its needle won't pose any threat, still being pricked by many needles all at the same time definitely doesn't feel good.

Among the group, only Mu Lingxi remained unscathed, while the rest of her friends resembles a cactus. Not even a single needle pricked her, and of course, it was all thanks to her cat, Janus.

Janus remains on his guard ever since they arrived at the Living Mountain Valley. Thus he was able to sense that something is amiss right before they got under attack.

He managed to transform in his panther form and leaped to a safe distance before the needles rained on them.

Since Barnacle Trees were stationary in nature and they have no way to move on their own, the range of their attack was  also bound to be limited to a specific area

This works in their favor because if these Barnacle Trees were capable of moving around, then their group might really end up incapacitated by the sheer volume of needles that will rain on them.
