”The piano is a keyboard instrument that was invented in the ancient western world . It has 88 keys and three pedals . The one on the left is a softening pedal . It lowers the volume of the notes that are played . The one on the right is a damper pedal . It causes the notes that are played to sustain longer . The one in the middle is the sostenuto pedal . It allows the pianist to sustain certain notes whilst keeping the others unaffected . ” Fang Zhengzhi explained .
”Western world?!”
”Did he just say western world?! Is he . . . ”
”How can that be?”
