Chapter 1481 (1/2)
Murong Cheng didn’t sleep well the night before, so Luosang asked her to head home first. She had planned to stay herself, as it was more convenient since they were all girls.
Jiang Yuning turned to Luosang and said, “You can go home too. Just leave her to me. I will take good care of Xixi.”
“No, it’s ok. I think you should stay, Sangsang,” Nian Xi said with her eyes closed.
Jiang Yuning looked disappointed as he lowered his head—Nian Xi must be still mad at him. She didn’t even want him to take care of her.
Luosang noticed his sad face. He looked like Xiaosi when he didn’t get a treat. She pitied him and explained, “Some things are easier and more convenient when it’s all girls around.”
“I understand,” Jiang Yuning said reluctantly.
Luosang kept quiet.
She wondered if he fully understood everything she had just said.
When everyone had left, some colleagues and friends dropped by to visit Nian Xi at the hospital. Nian Xi tried her best to entertain her visitors. At around noon, an unshaven Captain Chen went over to visit. “Nian Xi, I’m so sorry. I should have visited you last night but I’ve been up all night interrogating some suspects. They only revealed the location where they hid all the abducted women this morning. I had to plan a mission to rescue all of them safely, but because of the hostility and physical abuse by the suspects, one of the women had to be sent to the hospital.”
“What perverts,” Nian Xi said through gritted teeth. “Thank goodness they rescued the victims in time. We must put this man behind bars.”
“Of course, but we have to look into where he got his firearms from. I don’t understand how a farmer can get his hands on a Beretta 92F,” said an exhausted Captain Chen, perplexed.
Nian Xi frowned, “You’re worried that there’s an underground arms trafficking ring involved in this?”
“But the guy insisted that he picked it up in the woods,” Captain Chen smirked. “I think this whole thing is fishy. According to my investigation, this guy hasn’t been able to find a wife because of his family condition. Rejection and alienation from his community were what gave birth to his twisted mindset and perverted tendencies—that’s why he ended up abducting women. I made a home visit and his living conditions were terrible. He couldn’t have had enough money to buy a gun like that. At most, he could only afford a hunting rifle.”
