“But… I don’t want you to drive. You must be tired,” said Jiang Yuning with guilt.

Nian Xi was warmed by his words. “I’m not tired. When I worked in a local police station, I always drove all over the city. I’ve gotten used to it.”

“I’m not used to seeing you being tired,” Jiang Yuning said honestly. “You are my queen. You have to feel comfortable when you are with me.”

Nian Xi paused briefly when she heard him that. She remembered when she first became a policewoman. She got up so early and went home so late. She was exhausted every single day. Except for her family, no one ever worried about her.

Her family always wanted her to get married, so that she would have a nice man to look after her. She didn’t understand that before, but now, she started to get it.

Even a super strong person would want someone to rely on someday.

Would Jiang Yuning be that person for her? She remembered hearing people say that he was working on a very mysterious project. Nian Qingyun didn’t want her to be with Jiang Yuning because he didn’t want her daughter to get involved in something like that.

“Yujing, what is the project that you’re working on?” she said to him. “I heard that you’ve been working on a mysterious project. Is that true?”

“N-no… I’m not.” Jiang Yujing’s expression changed.

Nian Xi didn’t say anything else but looked straight ahead.

After a long while, Jiang Yuning stuttered saying, “Xi, it’s not that I don’t want to tell you. Some projects are secret, especially now. Now is an era of high-tech development. The compet.i.tion in the science world is very strong. I’m not on that project anymore. I’m only doing some small projects that will help people with their lives.”

“I get it. I’m not mad at you. I am a policewoman, so I can understand,” said Nian Xi. “You are doing the right thing not telling me.”

“I understand.” She stopped the car before a red light and continued by saying, “Because we are the same. Our jobs require us to contribute to our country.” She looked at him in the eyes.

Her black eyes glowed in the darkness, like the eyes of a cat. Jiang Yuning was nearly lost in those eyes. A short while later, he smiled shyly and said, “So, we’re such a good match.”
