“It’s okay,” Nian Xi forced a smile that looked even worse than a crying face. “Give the baby to me if you’re too tired to hold him. You don’t want to accidentally drop him, do you?”

It was all because she was single. She was so unlucky.

She spent the whole New Year looking after her nephew. Every guest who visited the family would say to her, “Nian Xi, you’re a mother now!”

“No, this is my brother’s son,” she explained.

“Oh, you really love children. You should have one of your own.”

Nian Xi didn’t know how to respond to that.

She wasn’t crazy about kids. Her brother drained his wife of energy every single night and made her look after their son.

The world looked down on single people and treated them differently.

Finally, she went back to work on the seventh day of the New Year. Fang Qi gave her a pile of files once she walked into the police station. Her hands were trembling and the files all fell to the ground.

“What happened to your hands during the vacation?” Fan Qi asked with a surprised look on his face.

“Oh, I was taking care of my nephew. I held the baby every day. My hands are sore. I can’t even hold my gun now. I couldn’t wait to get back to work. I’m now I’m here. For the first time, I feel that the precinct is a wonderful place.”

Fang Qi patted her on the shoulder with a look of pity.

“Stop chatting. The staff meeting is about to start. The director’s coming to make a speech,” Fan Yi reminded them.

Nain Xi and Fang Xi quickly headed upstairs to the conference room.

The director gave a standard New Year speech. During the meeting, he commended a few police officers, including Feng Ji Chuan. Before New Year, he had solved a few large cases with Captain Luo and caught a drug dealer. Now he was being promoted to squadron leader.
