“You want me to do that for you?”

“You won’t, because you are too rational. You won’t love me like my brother loves Luosang. You will be fine without me and you can go about your day as normal. Feng Jichuan pursed his lips before responding, “Everyone handles things differently. I’m not like your brother. You know how I am, I’m more rational, I’m used to this sort of thinking even at work. When you said that you wanted to break up, I thought we were going to take time off to cool down. After the break, we would come to realize how important we are to one another and grow to treasure this relations.h.i.+p more.”

“Yeah, in your world we can take time to cool down no matter what the issue was. After four months apart, you are still the same as before, not fatter or skinnier, the same cheerful man. I lost nearly five kilograms.” Nian Xi shrugged sarcastically and shut the door.

Feng Jichuan pounded on the window. She hesitated before lowering the window. “Nian Xi, I can’t give you such a pa.s.sionate love if that’s what you’re looking for. I’m past that age now, but I can tell you with certainty that I will treat you well if you marry me. I will dote on you and I will love my family. I will be responsible and I will never do anything to let you down. You’re not a child anymore, we’ve all grown up.”

“Most men in this world are rational. Even if you find another guy that showers you with grand gestures, they will come along with a complicated past and a history of many previous relations.h.i.+ps. They could break up today and find someone else. Tomorrow, they might even be after your family’s wealth. Or you could find someone younger, immature, and you would have to take care of them for the rest of your life. Nian Xi, you still haven’t grown up after all, you need someone to take care of you.”

Nian Xi laughed. “This is how you think of me? I think you’ve forgotten that you enlisted when you were eighteen when we were already together. You weren’t around all this time. Murong Cheng said quickly, “She’s pregnant, there’s a lot of things to look out for in her diet, be careful.”

“Bring Luosang over more frequently and I’ll make some tonic for her. She needs a lot of nutrients now that she’s pregnant.” Yu Wen reminded him again, she was excited for her baby grandchild to arrive.
