“The past? I’m afraid it’s hard to go back to the past, you’re so old now, are you able to?” Nian Junting said casually, but it tore his father’s heart.

Nian Qingyun was furious. “Are you going to side with an outsider?”

“I’m sorry, I can’t help you with this matter. Mother dragged out the divorce for the sake of Nian Xi and me. She finally freed herself from the shackles of your broken marriage, I can’t bear to lock her down with chains again. What have you done for her to salvage that relations.h.i.+p anyway? You haven’t been able to put aside your pride in all these years.”

Nian Junting said accusingly, “Also, do you take me for a fool? I know that you would have still thought that Mother was too absorbed in her work to show care and concern for the family if Jiang Qifei’s true colors were not exposed. You always thought that she wasn’t gentle, caring and docile enough as a wife. You weren’t even that sorry about what you had done, but now you finally regret your actions. You finally recognized the good in my mother so you’re trying to win her back but you’re not doing anything yourself.”

Nian Qingyun’s face was red with embarra.s.sment.

“She wouldn’t talk to me every time I called her.”

“If you are trying to win her back, you should try all sorts of methods. How much effort have you put into this? Not much, have you? Don’t try to get me or Nian Xi to convince Mother. Anyway, Mother has found someone who treasures her, you shouldn’t go bothering her anymore.”

Nian Junting hung up after saying his piece. On the other end of the line, Nian Qingyun was staring at his phone and all of a sudden he felt old.

Back at the villa, Luosang was awake already. She hadn’t gotten out of bed yet and was using her phone under the duvet. The doctor said that her baby might be affected and the back of her head was still sore. She didn’t dare to climb out of bed yet.

“How is Jiang Qifei?”

She guessed that he must have gone to the hospital.

Nian Junting sat by the bedside and talked as he watched her play her mobile game. “Jiang Qifei has been sentenced to two weeks of reeducation. Leng Shuangwei said that she would keep an eye on her after she is released to make sure that she doesn’t do anything foolish again. She shouldn’t give us any more trouble from now on, she still cares a lot about her daughter.”

Luosang hummed to acknowledge him, “That’s for the best then.”

“You’re not upset?” Nian Junting was relieved.
