Chapter 61 - Naive (1/2)

Simon turned towards the now startled guards. After seeing Simon viciously kill their vice-commander while only a being a minor, they stood at there posts with terror, staring back and forth between Simon and Diovol's detached head. Without even considering the idea of avenging their fallen brother, most of the guards looked away and pretended that the scene was of no importance, signalling their d.e.s.i.r.e to keep away from further conflict. From the beginning, almost none of them even wanted to attack Simon since they already saw how he had virtually been dragged in to their mistress' chambers against his will.

With expressions of pity, many of them honestly did not feel the hint of grudge. As guards, they are only assigned to protect Malece, as for the matter of when she wrongs another party, they can only stand by and do their jobs. Truth be told, some of them even had children and felt some disgust to their mistress' actions towards the minor in front of them, but hid it well beneath their iron hard exterior.

”Does anyone else wish to settle their business with me?” Simon asked as he looked back to his former opponent. With the hostility in the room quickly halting, only one of the guards felt the need to step up. Being a relatively young guard that hadn't witnessed the scene from earlier in the throne room, he held plenty of hatred for the devil that had just killed his vice-captain.

Without much context, the young guard believed that it was Simon who r.a.p.ed his mistress, causing the previous scene to play out. With his leader dead, the youthful guard could only stare at Simon with disgust in his eyes.

”Don't. You are no match for him on your own. He is not necessarily in the wrong either.” A more senior guard said as he place his arm in front of the young guard before the latter could move forward. With the current atmosphere of pure hate and anxiety, there was very little the senior guard could say to his junior for him to reconsider. It was obviously apparent that the young guard wished to settle his score with the youth in front of them.

With eyes like the wildfires of Hell, Simon stared at the approaching guard. Seemingly innocent to the ways of the world and probably also a pure v.i.r.g.i.n, the guard held himself high. Being a genius that ascended to the 5th rank only a 7 years after his a.d.u.l.thood ceremony, the guard could be considered to be one of amazing talents. Armed with the same armour as his predecessor and a sword that spanned a metre, the guard resolved himself for the fight.

”So you too wish to duel me? For what 'righteous' reason? I have never even harmed my wife, so why do you attack?” Simon said with a mocking voice as he returned his four daggers to his position.

”You have killed my mentor! You have r.a.p.ed the Mistress! I WILL KILL YOU TO AVENGE THEM!” The young guard rushed towards Simon with the fury of a thousand tigers. With his blade in hand, the guard initiated his sword manoeuvres and attempted to use his devil technique.

”CRIMSON CRESCENT BLADE!” A large wave of crimson energy rushed towards Simon. Knowing that such an attack could easily rip apart his body if it hits him, Simon blinked to the side and positioned his daggers in 4 appropriate spots.

”Naive.”

Simon blinked behind the rushing guard with a dagger in his hand. As soon as the guard realised that Simon had flanked him, Simon had already moved for his own attack. With the ferocity of a feral animal, Simon plunged his dagger into the guard's back, wounding him with indescribable amounts of pain. Of course this pain could not be compared to common pain of being burnt or stabbed, but this pain felt like the descriptions of hell.
