Vol 9 Chapter 72 (1/2)

VOLUME 9 CHAPTER 72: DON’T TELL ME THIS IS THE BATTLE OUTSIDE XINYE CITY (7)

Li Dian POV

*Ding*!

A clear sound rang out when I blocked her attack with my blade but her rotation did not stop even after this.

*Ding* *Ding* *Ding*!!

Only after 3 successive attacks did she slow down and drop to the ground. Contrary to my expectations, she somersaulted in the air and landed lightly on her feet before dispatching troops around her.

“Don’t be afraid! Keep charging! Ignore everything and charge ahead!” I yelled as I turned back and looked at everyone who was drenched in sweat and felt anxious. It’s clearly going to an arduous task for heavy infantry to charge through the surround at this point.

Just a bit more. Just a bit more and we’ll make it!

My heart began to thump harder and I felt my body burning all over perhaps from my wound and I felt strangely excited. I was still getting swept up by my emotions even at a critical time like this, can I still call myself a warrior?

“Yaaaaaa!” I roared out as I hacked and slashed my way through. By this time, I was bathed in so much blood and gore that I could no longer smell it.

From time to time, I would turn back and see if I could see Guan Yu and the rest but only the whirlwind girl continued to chase us down. What made me surprised, and also relieved, was that Guan Yu was nowhere to be seen. I wonder if she got stymied by the cavalry or something else bogged her down.

“Lord Li Dian!” Lord Lu Xiang suddenly yelled at me.

“Ah?!” I was still looking back and when I turned, I found that we were surrounded by wilderness with no enemies or blades in front of us, only a narrow dirt road with no obstructions ahead of us.

“Lord Li Dian! We made it out!”

We are out? We made it!?

I was unable to understand what she meant immediately and only after these words reverberated in my head several times did I understand that we finally made it out of the surround.

As I continued to lead my horse ahead, I looked at Lu Xiang’s elated expression and the cheering troops behind. Their cheers were filled with delight and relief but also sorrow and loss. Only after several dozen paces did the feeling that we broke through the surround feel real.

“Yes, we made it out.” I nodded profusely and took a deep breath to calm myself down, “Of course. Un. Ah… Hu. Of course, yes. But we can’t lower our guard. We must fast march for another 6km. Yes, a fast march.”

“6km?” Lu Xiang asked, not understanding what I meant.

“Yes,” I nodded and explained it to her as simply and as quickly as I could, “We’re abandoning our siege weapons and camp and make a beeline for Fan city.”

“Wu…” Lu Xiang groaned and seemed both troubled and even angry. I know that she cannot take this but she knows just as well that under present circ.u.mstances, we have no hope for winning whatsoever.

“I understand.” She said after a moment of silence. In that instant, it felt like she had become a little more mature than before. Well, just a little.

“Alright, how many thousand-man generals are there here?”

“Here!” When I turned back, I saw a woman covered in wounds all over come running cover. Looks like she can still run huh.

“Give the order to the troops behind to ditch their heavy plate as we run! Continue advancing with light armour!”

“Yes!”

“Ah, wait.” I stopped her just as she was about to leave.

“Do you have any more orders?”

I turned back and surveyed the battle behind us. Our troops were still

pouring out but the cavalry was surrounded on all sides by many layers of enemies. It would be impossible for them to break out on their own.
