55 Chapter 55: Fruitful Training (2/2)

Which involved, as the old man said, instinct.

He would be placed in a room, full of training puppets that can fight. They were enchanted to repair themselves, and wouldn't stop working, if you didn't use the correct amount of strength in each strike.

At first he didn't understand well, but when he fought the first one, he was frustrated. No matter how much hard or soft he hit it, it just regenerated in a second.

But after a bit he understood, what he needed to do.

He tried to control his strength as much as possible, then experimented on the puppets, until he was able to kill it.

But every puppet had a different amount of strength needed.

In this way days pa.s.sed, with him suffering to control his strength. But along the days, he finally understood the old man when he said instinct.

When he fought the puppets now, he would just allow his instincts to guide him and show him how much strength was needed.

Once he mastered it, the old man said that he was finally ready for the advanced sword arts.

”Now that we covered your foundation. It is time for you to learn some decent skills. Since you said that you can master any moves since you don't use a technique to advance in ranks, I'll be honored to teach you my sword moves.” Alaster said.

While Ned bowed his head a bit. ”The honor is mine”

”However I would still advice you to only use the skills of one technique, otherwise you'll grab much attention to yourself. And furthermore, even if you tried to master the techniques fully. You wouldn't be able to.” The old man added.

And Ned was perplexed suddenly. He asked uncertainly ”Why can't I master them if I train hard?”

”Because the only way for you to master the skills, would be to hone your instinct fully. And that is something you would only be able to do, in a battle. And particularly death battles.” The old man said seriously. Gone was the grandfatherly persona. He wanted Ned to understand this part seriously.

Ned got back his focus, and solemnly nodded while telling the old man he understood ”I understand old man. Thank you for your guidance”
