Chapter 996: Retaking the Fortress (1/2)
”Should we wait for The Monarch Descends and Blazing Hot Lips?”
Gui Guzi looked behind them and said, ”There are at least several hundred thousand Purple Gr.a.p.e City players in White Fortress. I’m not sure we can take it with our numbers.”
However, I looked toward the front and said, ”It’s fine. We’ll ride up the walls from the inner section, occupy the high ground and wait for reinforcements!”
”Okay!”
I unsheathed the Purple Ying Sword and shouted, ”It’s time to take back the fortress. Kill!”
Behind me, the Dragonlight Cavalry pulled out their weapons and shook the clouds with their battle cries. Although we were only several thousand strong, our morale was about as high as it could be. White Rose Fortress was ours to take.

On the fortress, a commander from Purple Gr.a.p.e City called out to his troops, ”Archers, mages, switch to the Far Shot mode and prepare to stop them! All mounted players are to get to the ground and block the enemy now! Notify all players inside the fortress that war is upon us!”
I had checked out White Rose Fortress’ blueprints before. From a bird’s eye view, It looked just like a square-shaped city. As long as we occupied the walls, we would hold all the cards, and all the advantage.
”Full speed ahead! Don’t let them shut the gate on us!” Gui Guzi shouted while charging.
Countless arrows and magical spells rained our way, but we simply blocked them all with our shields without losing any speed whatsoever. Dragon Soul Protection already increased our defense, but the Far Shot mode itself also reduced damage. As a result, the ranged attacks barely tickled us.
Unfortunately, it was already too late. Several thousand Purple Gr.a.p.e City mounted players had already galloped out of the gate and were charging toward us.
Close-ranged combat had always been our forte, and we carved through the Purple Gr.a.p.e City riders like a hot knife through butter. In fact, now that I thought about it, this might be the first true battle our cavalry experienced since we swapped out our original mounts for the Dragonscale Beasts. Not only that, the 1000 Dragonlight Archers behind us fired their Skypiercers into the sky and killed many enemy riders as a result.
I became the first person to slip past the gate before it was shut completely. I looked around and saw a dozen or so players pulling at the winch and attempting to shut it.
After I killed them all with Burning Blade Slash, Gui Guzi appeared behind me with a mad laugh. I pointed to the right and ordered, ”Little Gui, you and your men scale the walls from the right while I go from the left! Let’s occupy the high ground first before we do anything else!”
”Got it!”
Most of the mounted players on the walls were dismounted because their mounts didn’t do well on stairs. That was not the case for the Armored Ice Qilin Horse or the Dragonscale Beast. Ignoring the enemy’s attack, I rode all the way up to the walls and fired Thousand Ice Slash at the enemy. At the same time, I summoned my apparition and made it use Purple Dragon Howl!
”Roar!”
All the players on that particular section of the wall were annihilated in an instant. Behind me, Heaven’s Rain showed up with the Dragonlight Cavalry and occupied it in no time. It wasn’t long before we had taken all the walls of the fortress.
”All mounted archers, shoot the players inside the fortress!” I pointed.
While this was going on, Gui Guzi, Heaven’s Rain and I continued to expand our control while reducing Purple Gr.a.p.e City’s. The Dragonlight Archers also used Skypiercers and Spiraling Arrow Blades to bombard the Purple Gr.a.p.e City players who were now trapped at the center with nowhere to run.

Gui Guzi couldn’t stop grinning seeing that the situation had fallen completely under our control. While cutting down enemies left and right with his spear, he said with a laugh, ”Boss Broken Halberd, we have retaken White Rose Fortress!”
”Not yet…” I replied with a worried tone before sending He Yi a message: ”How goes the battle at Black Coast, Eve?”
She replied, ”It’s fierce. Cyan Earth City sent a lot of powerful guilds to attack us, and it’s still a statemate even though we’ve been fighting them at Cyan Tiger Forest for 7 hours straight. What’s wrong?”
”I’m attempting to take control of White Rose Fortress in order to crush Purple Gr.a.p.e City’s next move, but the amount of troops I currently have is not enough even with The Monarch Descends and Blazing Hot Lips’ 100000 players. If Red Maple and God’s Domain attack us now, we may lose White Rose Fortress a second time.”
He Yi fell silent for about a minute before she replied, ”Alright, I just told Xu Yang to amass an army of one hundred thousand and meet up with you. You should speak to him directly for more direct orders. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to send you Chaos Moon, Li Chengfeng, High Fighting Spirits, Beiming or Lian Xin any time soon because we need them, and Snowy Cathaya is on the brink of falling apart. The good news is that the Indians will be forced to retreat if we manage to withstand this assault. Their losses are just as bad as ours.”
