56 Chapter 55. (2/2)
I just narrowly avoided the projectile as my heart leapt through my chest. I kicked off of the wall with my left foot towards the building with the ladder and repeated the process of zigzagging back and forth between the walls as I made my way upwards towards the flying object with spinning blades that was overhead.
I managed to land on the roof of the building, but before I could make an attempt to assault that flying object, it put distance between us to my horror.
”Fight fair and square you dirty cheater! Get over here and have a good old fist fight with your great grand daddy!”
”Pft, dumbass.”
Are they mocking me? Are they? You dare? I'm an aide to the crown prince of the Celestial Empire! Since when have I ever been looked down upon like this?
I let the blood rush to my head as I set my sights on the object that hovered a bit above the building across from me.
I exchanged glances with the man holding the long barrelled gun, it was like we came to some sort of understanding.
Both our eyes turned serious and it seems we had some sort of mutual understanding. I understood clearly, this man would not come closer to me, ever. He clearly understood if I got my hands on him I would squash his little head out of existence.
Once the two of us had acknowledged our opponent, I made the first move. I madly sprinted towards the edge of the roof towards the roof the flying object was above.
The man holding the long barreled gun reacted quickly like a trained veteran and stared down what looked to be a scope attached to the long barrelled gun and took aim. He held his breath and calmed his heart.
I had an intense sense of dread at the change in his atmosphere like I was looking at a dragon hidden in a deep pond getting ready to bare his fangs.
I felt if things played out as they were I would be doomed. It was then I made a quick decision. I punched out heavily on the ground destroying the ground beneath and sending debris flying everywhere high up in the air in the direction of the flying object the man was in.
He was slightly startled and shouted out, ”what the hell?! That's cheating!” But he quickly regained his composure and said, ”up” to the man who appeared to be controlling the flying object.
The flying object started to ascend higher up in the air while I had already begun to make my move. I continued running across the collapsed ground towards the edge of the building I had sent the debris flying towards.
When I reached the air I made a grand leap of fate towards the debris that was still increasing in height in the direction of the flying object. The man once again took aim, but this time I felt confident. I was no longer merely heading in a straight line after all. I quickly pushed off the piece of debris I was on and jumped to other large pieces in the air.
I jumped around the air like a trained acrobatic while I pushed off left and right and zigzagged through the scattered pieces in the air. To the man in the flying object I'm sure I looked like a god ascending the nine heavens. With serious looks on our faces we clashed. The man didn't give up so easily and began to rapidly fire towards my direction while we had our great dance of dodging and attacks.
Bang. Bang. Bang. BaBang!
Five bullets came flying in rapid succession towards me. One was aimed at me directly, while the other four were aimed at positions I could flee towards.
”Naive!”
I grabbed ahold of a piece of debris that was in the air beside me and kicked off another.
I threw the debris to intercept the path of one of the bullets. You may wonder how I accomplished this. Naturally I reacted before he shot the bullet I was aiming to block with the rock.
When he fired the first bullet I had already reacted, grabbed the rock and threw it in the path of where he aimed to fire the second bullet that was intended to seal my path of retreat.
When it was blocked I had naturally kicked off towards that direction.
”Tch. Damn flying monkey man.”
Bang. Bababang!
He fired in rapid succession slightly flustered at having his first wave of attacks countered so skillfully.
Everything happened almost instantly in our showdown fought between life and death.
When the man had fired out nine times he finally stopped. He said regretfully, ”you're lucky I didn't think it would take so many shots. I was too confident in my skills and only brought one magazine.”
”We'll definitely have a rematch! Next time, I'll make sure to bring a few more magazines you freak of nature. Don't get killed our caught until then!”
”You think you can escape just like that?”
”Of course. We can fly, what can you do to stop us?”
He was right, the momentum of the debris had already stopped their ascent and had begun to fall back down to the ground. There was nothing more I could do at this point, but I couldn't just let these cocky little mortals have their way and escape scot-free.
I decided to use a forbidden technique that would leave me in a weakened state. Like hell I'm going to do that! Do you think I'm a moron?! Instead I turned around and pushed off strongly on a piece of debris and made my escape.
The debris I kicked off of was sent flying towards the flying object in the sky and got lodged in and damaged the rotating blades above it. I looked back and saw that smoke was coming out from the top of the slightly damaged flying object and it descended back towards the ground.
”Hmmp! You got away lucky little mortal brat with the big gun. I'll remember you!”
I turned away and leapt from building to building and finally managed to lose the cops that were pursuing me. Without their eyes in the sky it looks like they had lost their means of following me. I was curious how they had managed to track me the entire time when I was so much faster than them.
They kept magically appearing from around the corners all the time scaring me half to death.
By travelling across the top of the roof tops and without any flying objects chasing after me I was finally free.
