11 Chapter 10. (2/2)
”How can I possibly be so informal? To be on a first name basis with such a fairy?”
”If you can't call me Meg, then just call me fairy Meg.” The wife was really quite playful and calling her a fairy definitely was not far from the truth.
”Fine. I will call you senior sister fairy Meg then.”
I didn't notice it at the time but it seems the wife did, her husband's eyes twitched slightly upon hearing how I addressed her.
”Dearest husband are you jealous?”
”No.”
”Why are you looking the other way when you say that?”
”I'm not looking the other way, it's just your imagination. I'm just looking at the beautiful scenery in the background.”
”Husband... you're looking at a wall.”
The husband then said with a very profound expression ”it may be a wall or it may not be a wall. Whether it is a wall or the sky in front of me, even a wall can be considered a beautiful scenery when viewed from a certain angle. Even walls have a meaning to their existence. They are there to be overcome. They serve to separate but also to protect. A wall can have various meanings, it all depends on how one looks at it.”
The wife rolled her eyes and it looked like she thought her husband was just being shameless, but his words reverberated within the very depths of my soul.
It was like I had seen the light.
What is in front of me in life right now may be a wall that I must overcome, but at the end of the day it is the wall that separates me from my future. I must scale that wall from the bottom one step at a time. One day when I stand at the peak of the wall that I once hated so much, it will become the wall that I stand guard upon. It would be a wall that can be used to protect those that I hold dear. Those who are enemies stationed on the wall now would have no choice but to submit. The wall gazes disdainfully down at me right now, but when I have scaled it, will it be able to look down upon me any longer? No it will not. It will be forced to look up at me unable to do a single thing. The wall is the sect. Those at the top looking down at me are my present enemies. Each block I climb can be said to be an obstacle my enemy throws down that I must overcome.
Upon reaching my epiphany I heavily bowed while I voiced out ”thank you for venerable one's guidance. This lowly one will always remember your magnanimous teachings!”
Upon hearing my thanks, this respectable senior brother was slightly startled by my sudden outburst. After a moment he just nodded slightly while placing his hands behind his back as he looked back towards the wall while deep in thought with distant eyes.
Feeling a somewhat ancient air about him I felt slightly inclined to kowtow towards him and take him as my master. However, thinking that he might just be troubled and reject me; seeing as we just met, I held myself back. This is what a true expert distanced from the mortal realm should be like! Completely unlike what those shameless elders of the sect who prance about with stuck up chins arrogantly looking down upon all below them.
If I knew what the idolized figure before me was really thinking at this moment I might have coughed up blood in shame due to my naivety.
Although I was completely taken by the husband's act, the wife couldn't help but hide in a corner while trying to suppress the laughter building up inside of her.
Without my notice she looked towards me with a strange expression on her face. Even if I saw it I would not have understood the slightest of what she was thinking at the time.
