After packing up, Lin Fengmao parked an electric tricycle in front of the door. This was their means of transportation for the day.
He left on time at eight in the morning.
Although Lin and Zhang were neighbors, they were separated by a mountain. It was steep and straight, and they could only take a detour.
It was already an hour later when they arrived at the Zhang Family Village.
When they arrived at Lin Lan's house, Lin Fengmao frowned. This was too quiet, there was no atmosphere of a happy occasion at all.
Guo Caiyun looked at the tightly shut door, and uncertainly said, ”Head, could it be that Lan followed Yongping to that courtyard?”
Lin Fengmao wasn't sure, he took out his phone and dialed.
Soon, a surprised voice came over the phone, ”Bro, you're here?” Where are we? I'll get Yongping to pick you up. ”
Lin Fengmao laughed, ”You are already so old, and yet you are still so restless.” We're already at your door. I see that your house is all closed. If all of you are in that courtyard, we'll head there too. ”
The person on the other side of the phone was silent for a moment before replying, ”Big bro doesn't need to. Yongping went to open the door for you.” ”I'm hanging up. Let's talk inside.”
”Sigh …”
Without waiting for Lin Fengmao to continue asking, Lin Lan hung up the phone.
Guo Caiyun asked, ”Why do you look so bad? What's wrong?”
Lin Fengmao was just about to speak when he heard the door open. He could only give Guo Caiyun a ”we'll talk about it later” look.
The door creaked open and someone came out smiling. ”Brother, sister-in-law, you're here. Come in quickly. Mom, Dad, and Lan are all waiting for you inside.”
When he said this, he was stunned to see Jiang Kevin standing behind Guo Caiyun. He seemed to remember that the one who came should be his niece.
Sensing Zhang Yongping's hesitation, Jiang Chen stepped forward. ”Hello, uncle. I'm Jiang Kevin.”
”Ah, hello …” ”Come on in.” Perhaps he had misheard, but this thought flashed through Zhang Yongping's mind as he welcomed them in.
When they entered, Jiang Kevin's grandpa, Linde, and his grandmother, Nie Caijing, were standing in the living room, greeting their granddaughter, whom they had only met once. The two elders were feeling mixed emotions, but the moment they saw Jiang Kevin, all their doubts vanished.
”Wen Wen, my good grandson, why have you lost so much weight?” ”It must be those damned Lin Family members who are bullying me. Wuu, wuu, my good grandson, why do you have such a bitter life?”
Grandma hugged Jiang Chen and began bawling without a care.
Although his daughter was an ungrateful person, she was still his daughter. How could he not feel pain? How could he not think about it? When he saw his granddaughter, who looked similar to his daughter, the pain that he had buried deep in his heart welled up again.
Jiang Chen looked at Lin Fengmao in embarrassment.
Lin Fengmao never expected his mother to be so excited, nor had he ever seen Jiang Kevin in such a state of panic. He secretly laughed, but he still reached out his hand to pull Nie Caijing away.
Lin Fengmao advised, ”Mom, today is my good day, don't cry here.”
”Oh, good, I forgot.” Only now did Nie Caijin remember that today was her youngest daughter's son-in-law's good day. She could not cry.
Lin De turned his back and said, ”That's enough, don't stand outside anymore. Go in.”
He was tall, and even though he was in his sixties, he was tall and straight. He had a stern expression on his face, but the red rims of his eyes exposed the restlessness in his heart.
When they entered the room, Lin Lan, who was sitting on the mattress, pouted, feeling wronged. ”I thought you had forgotten about us.” ”If you have a nephew, you'll forget about us.”
Everyone knew that Lin Lan played dumb because she wanted to coax the old man.
Nie Zedong rolled her eyes and said, ”What eldest nephew, this is your niece.”
Lin Lan blinked, digging her ears. ”Mom, what did you say?” Niece? This is definitely a nephew! ”
Nie Caijin glared at her. ”I told you that I can't play on your phone while you're still with me. Don't you think you've seen too much of your life?” As he said that, he looked at Jiang Kevin, who was bent over on the brick bed with gentle eyes looking at the baby. He was stuck.
Today, because of a string of relatives, Jiang Kevin had intentionally worn a new set of clothes. He wore a black-and-white long-sleeved T-shirt, a short blue jacket, black jeans, and a pair of black sneakers.
At a glance, one would think that this was a handsome youth.
Nie Caijin's mind went blank. She even started to suspect that she had made a mistake. Was the child of her daughter a nephew and not a niece?
