Chapter 727 - He Didnt Love the Wrong Person (1/2)
After the kiss, Si Mobai gently wrapped his arms around Feng Tianlan’s waist. His eyes were full of warmth as he looked down at her, and his slightly calloused hands gently stroked her fair and smooth cheeks. “Lan’er, you’re the best. I promise I’ll live up to the faith you have in me.”
She’d once feared and doubted him but had still chosen to believe him in the end, and this moved him from the bottom of his heart, and his love for her grew even stronger.
She was the woman that he’d set his sights on at first glance. Her trust in him was proof that he’d picked the right person.
“Because Mobai is someone worth trusting.” Feng Tianlan moved his hand away. Because of his callouses, her cheeks felt slightly itchy and prickled.
He’d done way too much for her. One-sidedly establishing the natal contract, as well as taking a blood oath that would take effect if there was ever a change in affection. Every time she faced a dire life or death situation, he’d always appear and take action to rescue her.
All the literary depictions of heroes saving beauties had been reenacted by them many times over.
If he really wanted to kill her, he didn’t need to hire assassins to do it. As long as he did it himself, she’d have no way to defend herself. And, if it was a matter of protecting his reputation, he could’ve just kept her locked in Guiyuan Continent rather than take the pains to bring her along to Xuantian Continent.
No matter what the reason was, Mobai had no reason to kill her, especially not by setting up an ambush like this. This was clearly a trap someone had set up to frame him in order to incite disharmony between her and Mobai. She wasn’t stupid enough to fall into their trap.
After listening to her words, Si Mobai’s heart melted even more. He stretched out an arm and locked her in his embrace, gently resting his chin on the top of her head. He uttered in a soft but hoarse voice, “This won’t happen again. I will investigate it.”
Even if he had to slaughter one hundred innocent men, he wouldn’t let a single suspicious person go.
In his arms, Feng Tianlan obediently acknowledged his words and said warmly, “I believe you.”
That’s just how she was. Loving him meant believing him. If she had to pick between believing a stranger and the person she cherished most, she’d pick the person she cherished most. Anyone with half a brain would do the same.
Perhaps she loved way too rationally, but what was wrong with that, with loving and protecting each other until they grew old without too many misunderstandings getting in the way?
