Chapter 20 Public Display Of Affection (2/2)
”No, I won't let anyone destroy my son's future. The slap on that bitch's face was only a warning. If my son fails to become the governor, I'll teach her a good lesson,” said Lucia.
”Did you hit her?” John asked, incredulously.
”So what? Why should you be distressed? She is your aunt now. Why do you still care about her? If it weren't for her, you wouldn't have been forced out,” said Lucia, in a dissatisfied tone.
”How could you hit her? She knew nothing about it.” John yelled at Lucia.
”Your uncle yelled at my grandpa because of that woman and now you are yelling at me, too. What the hell is wrong with you? Are you both enchanted by her?” asked Lucia. She was completely annoyed.
John tried his best to control his emotions. His mind was occupied by thoughts of Cherry now, knowing that she had been slapped.
”Anyway, mom, stay away from Cherry!” With these words, John got up and left.
”You! You!” Lucia was almost driven mad. Looking at John's receding figure, she was speechless.
Cherry was lying in Jackson's arms, as Jackson applied ice to her face in the hope of reducing the swelling.
The doorbell rang. Jackson gently said to Cherry,”Lie on the bed for a while, I'm going to see who is at the door.”
”Okay.” Cherry nodded, obediently.
As soon as Jackson opened the door, he saw John's anxious face. Jackson's face darkened at once.
”What are you doing here?” Jackson asked, his demeanor hostile.
”Uncle, I'm here to see Che..” Before he could finish his sentence, John noticed Jackson's eyes blazing with rage. He quickly changed his words,”I'm here to see my aunt.”
”Get out!” said Jackson and he was about to slam the door.
But John pushed the door open and said to Jackson,”Uncle, I just want to say sorry to Cherry. My mom was too impulsive.”
After hearing John's words, Jackson could no longer restrain himself. He grabbed John by his collar. He wanted to beat him hard.
”John, stay away from her,” said Jackson, testily.
”Uncle, she was my woman,” said John. He was not afraid of him at all, even if he was his uncle. He was willing to fight him for Cherry.
”Shit!” With this word, Jackson punched John in his face.
John was vexed by the punch and he fought back.
Cherry was sleeping in the bedroom when she heard the commotion outside. She got up and went out to see what was happening.
When Cherry saw them fighting, she was frightened. She wondered what was going on. Why were the uncle and the nephew fighting each other?
Cherry knew that Jackson must have emerged the winner when she saw blood on John's face. Jackson was obviously unscathed. He was so well-trained that few people could beat him.
Cherry did not want them to fight with each other anymore. She shouted,”Stop!”
Jackson and John ignored her and continued with the fight.
Cherry stepped forward, grabbed John by his arm and pulled him behind her. Jackson was about to punch John again, but when he saw that Cherry was in the middle, he stopped.
The fierce scene finally calmed down. John stood behind Cherry and said nothing. Jackson gave Cherry a strange look. He couldn't believe that Cherry would be take John's side. He had been so good to her. Why couldn't she let John get out of her heart?
Cherry stood there for a while. When she was sure that the fighting had really stopped, she slowly walked to Jackson and went into his arms. She held Jackson by his waist, looked at John and said,”John, I am your aunt, and since you're engaged to my sister, I'm also your sister-in-law.”
”Cherry, I'm just worried about you and I wanted to see how you are doing,” said John, annoyed. Cherry's actions and words had upset him.
”Thanks for your concern. I'm good and you can now go back, my nephew,” said Cherry, coldly.
”Cherry, I…” John was interrupted by Jackson before he could finish.
”John!” Jackson yelled at him
John stopped talking.
Cherry suddenly snuggled up against Jackson's chest, put her arms around his neck and said,”Darling, I want some chicken soup.”
Seeing her in this state, Jackson was not sure whether she really wanted to eat soup or just wanted to embarrass John. Anyway, the most important thing for him was to please her.
”Okay, I will cook it for you,” said Jackson, tenderly, while stroking her head gently.
Both of them turned and went inside.
