23 Eternal Sanctuary (1/2)

As the red dragon emperor stood before his allies in defiance against the army of fallen who's wings blotted out the moonlit sky, his scale mail cracked and shattered to pieces. His body littered with wounds he sustained from the legion before him. He looked to his friends, people who in the last month he had come to cherish.

Kiba, who was able to fuse together holy and demonic energies to create something that shouldn't exist. Asia who was desperately trying to heal everyone she could, bless her heart.

Shirone who was in the arms of her sister Kuroka as she protected her.

The exorcist who came with his childhood friend Irina, her arm was broken when she tried to use Durandel. The cadre snapped her arm the moment she tried to bring it out.

Then he looked towards his master. The woman who he gave his soul to. She was still standing with the student council president Sona Sitri. Her peerage was in the care of Asia. They were still willing to fight, but their bodies were nearly ready to collapse any second. He didn't say a word.

Issei looked back up towards the Cadre and his legion of at least 2000 fallen who had followed him since the beginning. He was prepared to sacrifice himself if it meant he could save atleast one of his friends. Kokabiel raised his hand as his soldiers followed his signal and raised their spears ready to end them in a hail of light. As his hand fell, so did the thousands of spears

It was then that words that brought a smile to the black-haired nekoshou's face came

”BAKUDO 81: DANKU” sounded the voice as a large transparent screen manifested itself infront of the two peerages.

Kokabiel watched as the transparent wall stood strong despite the thousands of light spears, each powerful enough to pierce through a fortress wall. Once the smoke cleared, there he stood. The one who promised his death. As his haori moved with the small breeze, his sword already lit aflame. He couldn't stop a smile from adorning his face as he looked into the eyes of a man who's only goal was to kill.

”Thank you for coming.” The cadre spoke as his army positioned themselves for the fight of their lives.

The shinigami did not move, his gaze did not falter. He simply stood ready to burn all his enemies to ashes. The legion of fallen could feel a pressure directly touching their souls. If they were not already battle-hardened from the onslaught of war, they may have lost their breaths. But they stayed still, ready to kill the enemy before them.

Shiro felt something off. He looked down at his blade, his eyes widened as his flames were gone. Then he turned his view back towards the cadre as he chuckled.

”Did you really think I would make it easy for you? I have prepared for you.” Kokabiel said as he raised up an odd looking gem

”You have no idea how hard it was to steal this from that fool Azazel. This jewel was specifically designed to seal and absorb flames. I believe Azazel used it for one of his old experiments” He explained

”Now, what can you do alone? Against my brothers and sisters in arms!?” he roared as the rest of his army roared with him raising their spears

The shinigami simply spoke ”Kokabiel...” he began as the fallen silenced themselves to hear their enemy's response

”If there is one thing you should know about me, it's that I am never alone.” Before the Cadre could question what he meant, the shinigami yelled

”ETERNAL SANCTUARY” as bright light engulfed all the fallen and devils

Issei opened his eyes as he found himself unable to move his legs. He was greeted by the sight of a massive tree towering over the army of fallen.

”Issei, where are we?” He looked over to the voice of his master to see branches and vines wrapping around her injuries as they began healing
