17. Verily We have tried them as We tried the People of the Garden, Verily We have tried them as We tried the People of the Garden, when they resolved to gather the fruits of the (garden) in the morning.

19. Then there came on the (garden) a visitation from thy Lord, Then there came on the (garden) a visitation from thy Lord, (which swept away) all around, while they were asleep.

29. They said: ”Glory to our Lord! Verily we have been doing wrong!” They said: ”Glory to our Lord! Verily we have been doing wrong!”

31. They said: ”Alas for us! We have indeed transgressed! They said: ”Alas for us! We have indeed transgressed!

32. ”It may be that our Lord will give us in exchange a better ”It may be that our Lord will give us in exchange a better (garden) than this: for we do turn to Him (in repentance)!”

33. Such is the Punishment (in this life); but greater is the Such is the Punishment (in this life); but greater is the Punishment in the Hereafter,-if only they knew!

34. Verily, for the Righteous, are Gardens of Delight, in the Presence Verily, for the Righteous, are Gardens of Delight, in the Presence of their Lord.

35. Shall We then treat the People of Faith like the People of Sin? Shall We then treat the People of Faith like the People of Sin?

36. What is the matter with you? How judge ye? What is the matter with you? How judge ye?

37. Or have ye a book through which ye learn- Or have ye a book through which ye learn-38. That ye shall have, through it whatever ye choose? That ye shall have, through it whatever ye choose?

39. Or have ye Covenants with Us to oath, reaching to the Day of Or have ye Covenants with Us to oath, reaching to the Day of Judgment, (providing) that ye shall have whatever ye shall demand?

40. Ask thou of them, which of them will stand surety for that! Ask thou of them, which of them will stand surety for that!

42. The Day that the s.h.i.+n shall be laid bare, and they shall be The Day that the s.h.i.+n shall be laid bare, and they shall be summoned to bow in adoration, but they shall not be able,-43. Or that the Unseen is in their hands, so that they can write it Or that the Unseen is in their hands, so that they can write it down?

48. So wait with patience for the Command of thy Lord, and be not So wait with patience for the Command of thy Lord, and be not like the Companion of the Fish,-when he cried out in agony.

49. Had not Grace from his Lord reached him, he would indeed have Had not Grace from his Lord reached him, he would indeed have been cast off on the naked sh.o.r.e, in disgrace.

51. And the Unbelievers would almost trip thee up with their eyes And the Unbelievers would almost trip thee up with their eyes when they hear the Message; and they say: ”Surely he is possessed!”

52. But it is nothing less than a Message to all the worlds. But it is nothing less than a Message to all the worlds.

Surah 69. The Reality

1. The Sure Reality! The Sure Reality!

2. What is the Sure Reality? What is the Sure Reality?

3. And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is? And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is?

4. The Thamud and the 'Ad People (branded) as false the Stunning The Thamud and the 'Ad People (branded) as false the Stunning Calamity!

6. And the 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly And the 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly violent; 7. He made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in He made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in succession: so that thou couldst see the (whole) people lying prostrate in its (path), as they had been roots of hollow palm-trees tumbled down!

8. Then seest thou any of them left surviving? Then seest thou any of them left surviving?

9. And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin.

And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them.

18. That Day shall ye be brought to Judgment: not an act of yours That Day shall ye be brought to Judgment: not an act of yours that ye hide will be hidden.
