”The Shadow of Death”

by NeNe Capri.

Prologue.

Six months had pa.s.sed, and Kayson and KoKo were enjoying the married life. With all that they had been through, they deserved all the happiness in the world. Kayson relocated Goldie and the immediate crew, sold all the property in St. Croix, and then moved to another island in Dubai. Before Baseem went underground, Kayson put him on Detective Greg and Damien. With the help of Porcha and Shameezah, he did them real dirty; a perfect going away present for Mr. and Mrs. Wells. Once Kayson and KoKo were safe, Mocha released Yuri to Mr. Odoo with a stern warning; making him realize he was not untouchable. Forcing him to back the f.u.c.k up. Tyquan had gone on the run, leaving them one enemy unaccounted for, but Kayson vowed to continue his search. Keisha remained in their care while recovering, and yes, Mrs. KoKo was on house arrest again. Kayson had set their life on a new path and was working with KoKo on stopping the chase of the demons of the past.

”Oh s.h.i.+t!” Kayson moaned out as he slow stroked KoKo from the back. Shortly after, he released long and hard. He looked down at the sweat glistening on her back and placed soft kisses up and down her spine. Then he whispered in her ear, ”Doggie in the morning. The breakfast of champions,” he chuckled as he pulled out and stood up.

”You are so spoiled,” she stated as he pulled her to her feet.

”Sheeit . . . I'm not spoiled. I'm blessed,” he kissed her lips.

”Whatever, Mr. Spoiled.”

Kayson admired her s.e.xy body as she walked to the bathroom. He had missed her being pregnant with Quran, and was enjoying watching her belly swell. He was staying as close to home as possible so as not to miss anything this time around.

”What are we doing today?” she asked as she adjusted the water.

”I can't think right now. I'm f.u.c.ked up.”

”Get it together, Boss. You owe me a date. I want to have my last hurrah before your daughter invades my life.”

”I'm trying to pull it together, but my n.i.g.g.a Trae said it best, 'Pregnant p.u.s.s.y is to die for.'”

KoKo laughed. ”You are so stupid. Well, I'ma tell you right now, you ain't gonna have a b.i.t.c.h bloated every year, so get that s.h.i.+t outta ya head. I ain't Tasha Macklin.”

”Whatever. You gonna do what I tell you,” he said, coming up behind her and reaching around to rub her stomach. KoKo leaned back and rested her head on his chest.

”Thank you, baby,” he said.

”For what?”

”Loving me.”

”I told you I will love you a day past forever; and if I go first, I'ma haunt yo' a.s.s for the rest of your life.”

Kayson burst out laughing, ”That's f.u.c.ked up. How you gonna rest in peace?”

”You get another woman, it ain't gonna be no peace. I'ma be up in your house rattling s.h.i.+t and knocking s.h.i.+t over.”

”That's selfish. You gonna let all this good d.i.c.k go to waste?” he joked.

”No, 'cause I'm taking that m.u.t.h.af.u.c.ka with me.”

They both burst out laughing. ”You crazy as h.e.l.l.”

”And don't forget it.”

Within the hour, KoKo, Kayson, and Quran were so fresh and so clean, ready for a family day out.

Kayson smiled, watching as KoKo tried to keep up with Quran with her big belly.

After a few hours pa.s.sed, their family day was just about over, and Kayson had KoKo drive him to the airport. He needed to meet up with Baseem to handle some business. Then he was going to be stationary until the baby was born.

”I'll be right back,” he said, kissing KoKo on the lips.

”Bye, Daddy,” Quran grabbed him around the neck.

”Why you always blocking?” he said, pulling him to the front seat.

”I'm not blocking,” he giggled as Kayson tickled his neck.

He pulled his son into his arms and hugged him tight. ”See you in two days,” Kayson put his fist out. ”You're the man of the house. Hold it down for me.”

”Okay,” Quran hit his fist and then crawled to the back.

Kayson leaned over and kissed KoKo again.

”Hurry up back. I think your daughter wants outta here,” she looked down at her belly.

”Trust me. I will not miss this one being born,” he hopped out and shut the door.

KoKo watched until he was inside the private plane.

”Mommy, what's blocking?” Quran asked.

”It's what your father does to keep me from being in charge,” she smiled.

”Why you wanna be in charge? Daddy's in charge.”

”Fasten your seat belt,” KoKo shook her head and pulled off.

Quran shrugged his shoulders, buckled up, and looked out the window.

An hour later, Quran and KoKo walked into the house. She fixed them a snack and an ice cream sundae. Later that evening, she put Quran in the tub. Dressed in his pajamas, Quran joined KoKo in the living room for their movie night. The moment she saw his eyes closing in the middle of their Disney movie, she tucked him in her bed. KoKo picked up his toys and then cleaned the kitchen.

On her way to the shower, she checked the alarms, peeked in on her son, and placed her gun under her fluffy pillow. As KoKo lathered up, she felt a slight tightness in the bottom of her stomach.

”Don't you start, little girl. Your daddy is not here. I need two more days,” she looked down at her stomach.

By the time she got out of the shower, she felt a few more pains, and they were sharper.

”Not now, momma,” she walked to the closet and grabbed a sundress. She wanted to be dressed just in case.
