While reading this work we could not help thinking how interesting, as well as useful, geography as a branch of education might be made in our schools. In many of them, however, this is not accomplished. It is to be hoped that this defect will be remedied; and that in all our educational inst.i.tutions Geography will soon be taught in the proper way. Mrs. Somerville's work may, in this respect, be pointed to as a model.--_Tait's Edinburgh Magazine_, September, 1848.
