Chapter 980 Julie And Zed Resumed Contact (1/2)
”Never mind.” His father sighed as he slapped James' shoulder affectionately. ”Everyone likes their independence. Even though you're my son, I shouldn't force you to do what you don't want to. So just forget it,”
he uttered. James looked up at him in surprise.
He noticed that his father's hair had begun to turn white, and his face had become much older as well. This had made James feel quite guilty. ”I'll help you run the company whenever I'm free, dad.”
His father shook his head and raised his hand dismissively. ”Never mind. Just take care of your gym. As for the family business...”
He paused for a moment and then smiled to himself. ”Well, I've been thinking about that lately. After running such a big business for so many years, I've made enough money from it. I won't be needing it when I pass away.”
Even though his father sounded resolved, James felt even greater pressure in his heart.
”Dad...” he interrupted. But his father continued speaking.
”I have worked so hard over the years running the business in the hope of leaving it to you. However, since you're not interested in taking it over, there is no need for me to be so devoted.”
James clenched his hands, bewildered. ”Please don't say that. I am really sorry.”
”Ah, it's not your fault, James. I just figured it out myself. I've made enough money and had a good living from it. So if you've made up your mind, keep running your gym. I'll give you a hand If you want to scale up. As for the family business, I'll think more about it. I could sell it later at the right time and make a killing.”
What his father had said made James' heart skip a beat. He felt so exhilarated at this moment that he didn't know what to say. It seemed that his father had finally understood him and had made up his mind.
”James, I've got work to do, so I'm leaving now. Come home for dinner when you are free. Your grandmother hasn't seen you for days and misses you very much,”
he said as he squeezed his son's shoulder and then left the gym.
James stood rooted to the spot dumbfounded. He was unable to react, and his head buzzed as he processed everything that had just happened between him and his father.
Although James had appeared
”You're my wife in name only, on paper only. My heart and love will never be yours.”
Edward made it clear to Daisy that she was nothing to him. They were both victims of family greed -- the marriage was arranged for them.
