Jean sounded like she was offended.

”While I think what you said makes sense, I still think there's another way out. A better way. A smart woman like you should know how to deal with things like this in a better and perhaps, milder way,” Simon suggested, looking at Jean.

”People like that deserve to be treated that way,” Jean said without missing a beat. ”But treating people like Aunt Sara in a milder way won't work at all. She won't be grateful to you for your kindness and consideration nor will she learn anything from it. I fought back this time. I believe she'll think twice next time she plans on messing with me or my mother-in-law again. And she'll have lost before she even knows. So I think that's the last time she'll be causing any trouble for me,” Jean said.

”Really? Why are you so sure?” Simon asked.

”Um, Aunt Sara is like a lion among sheep and a sheep among lions. She falls easily for flattery. She won't see your kindness even when you're waving it at her face. Giving her a taste of her own medicine is the best and only way to deal with her,”

Jean answered. She noticed the shift in Simon's eyes as she finished speaking.

Jean just realized what she had just said to Simon. 'What's wrong with me? What did I just say? Sara's still his wife!

How stupid of me!

I hope he doesn't take me seriously. What's he going to do? He must be angry!

He's way harder to deal with than Sara, '

Jean thought to herself. She turned to Simon uneasily.

She was surprised to find that Simon wasn't angry at all. He was just gazing back at Jean with a thoughtful expression on his face.

This only made Jean more anxious. ”Uncle Simon, I don't know what I was saying. Please don't take what I just said seriously,” Jean said sheepishly.

”But you are right, quite right indeed,” Simon agreed with Jean and sighed. ”You handled it well. If only I'd noticed earlier, things wouldn't have taken a turn for the worse,” he said.
