Chapter 463 Free Ride (1/2)
With his window rolled down, Marcus shouted at Rachel,”Get in the car. I'm going downtown. If you'd like, I can take you somewhere where you'll be able to get a taxi easier.”
Rachel was not argumentative. Since Marcus had offered to help her, she opened the door and got into the passenger's seat of the car.
”Thank you, Marcus.”
Marcus thought that Rachel would be quite talkative during the drive. However, she was silent on the way. It surprised him.
When they stopped at a red light, a ragged old woman suddenly knocked on the window. Rachel turned and looked at Marcus with pleading eyes. ”Do you mind If I roll down the window?”
Marcus pulled his eyebrows together. ”Ah, women! What if she's dangerous?”
Rachel ignored him. She rolled the window down. It took her a while to find a five dollar note in her bag. She placed it into the bowl, which was held by the old woman.
As soon as she was about to roll the window up, the old woman pressed her hand down on the window to stop Rachel from closing it. ”What's going on?” Rachel asked.
”Give me a little more money... You are driving a very nice car. Don't you think that you should give me more money?” The old woman shook the bowl in her hand and extended her hand into the car to Rachel.
Rachel was shocked and speechless by her request for more money. She then turned to look at Marcus, but he had already turned his head to the other side. He seemed to mock her for asking for troubles as he had warned her that the old woman might be dangerous.
”I'm sorry. That's all I have right now. I don't have any other change on me. How about I give you more the next time I see you?” She had to compromise.
To their surprise, the old woman took out a board from her bag. She pointed to the QR code on it and said,”Let me save you the trouble. You can scan the QR code on this board. My son will call me once he receives the money!”
”...”
At that moment, Rachel froze. Her mouth opened and her eyes went wide. The cars behind them were already driving around them. Rachel now regretted her kindness towards the woman. She should have neglected the old woman without giving it a second thought.
”Sorry, I left my phone at home today. I can't help you any more than I already have.” Facing such a clingy old woman, Rachel had no other choice but to lie.
No one would give her money under such circumstances. T
