Gu Xijiu was astonished. ”What an odd tree! If the tree needs the people, will the array be broken when all of us leave?”

Calmly, Di Fuyi explained, ”Under normal circumstances, the people who came in will have to spend their lives here. There is no way out.”

Gu Xijiu looked at him fixedly. ”I can finally see why you sent these people here, people who are not the heaven's gift disciples. You sent them here to sustain the tree.”

Di Fuyi stroked her hair gently as he continued, ”Xijiu, this is the law of the heavens. These people were meant to die, but the majestic banana tree gave them a second chance to live. They complemented each other by forming a unity. I owe them nothing. This is why the tree will only save the people who are on the verge of dying. There is a clue in every heaven's law. Those who are responsible for carrying out the heaven's duty should not have petty kindness.”

Gu Xijiu did not know what to say. This was the first time that she heard about the heaven's law from Di Fuyi, so she was completely astonished. She thought about it for a moment before asking, ”How long has it come into existence?”

Di Fuyi sighed. ”It was here before me. I don't exactly know how long. To support the tree is the responsibility of every guardian of the heaven's law. You will…” He suddenly hesitated. ”You will understand it in the future.”

”How many people have come in here? Why didn't I see any bodies?” The place had been around for thousands of years, and it required the people to sustain the tree. There must have been a lot of people who came and died here. Shouldn't there be graveyards? How could she not see any graves around?

”No one will be able to leave any trace behind. Once the people die, they will turn into ashes. Moreover, the place will be cleared out once every 500 years. When the time's up, all the traces here will be completely wiped out, leaving nothing behind.” Di Fuyi continued to enlighten her with more facts.

Gu Xijiu was shocked. ”The life expectancy for someone whose spiritual power is level nine and above is 1,000 years. If the place will be wiped out once every 500 years, that means these people will die?”

Di Fuyi continued, ”The transition from level eight to level nine requires pills. Without the pills, they cannot possibly reach level nine only by practicing blindly. Gu Xijiu stammered. ”Will we… Will we be the same? You are a God, but you are trapped here as well. It is impossible for you to be trapped here your whole life, right?”

”Xijiu, when I came in here, I played by the rules, ”Di Fuyi responded.

That meant that he was no exception for any privileges. Gu Xijiu was unaware of the severity of the matter, so she was still shocked. ”Do you mean to say that none of us will be able to make it out?”

Di Fuyi comforted her. ”Don't worry; we will. I am now trapped here. A God cannot stay here until the end of time.”

That was true.

Gu Xijiu could finally heave a sigh of relief. She was touched by his gesture, as he knew how dangerous it was to be here and yet he chose to be here for her without hesitation. What else was there for here to be insecure about, now that his love for her was true?

She would never doubt him from now on. She only wanted to be with him. However, she could tell from Di Fuyi's words that he had not thought of any ways to escape yet. It seemed like they were going to have to spend a few years in here. Hopefully, the clearance would not happen anytime soon.

A sudden thought emerged. ”By the way, all of you made it in here because you were at the verge of dying, but I… I made it in without any harm at all, why is that so?” She was the only one who came in by having the mussel to carry her, unharmed.

Di Fuyi peeled a fruit and passed it over to her. He seemed to be a little pleased. ”That is why I said that you are different. I have indeed got myself a perfect wife.”

Gu Xijiu looked at him quietly. She was waiting for him to brag on.

Di Fuyi gave in. ”All right. I have inquired for more details from the mussel about your entry. You seemed to have run into the right place at the right time. It is perhaps the heaven's call that you are here, for you to have a better practice for the transition of your spiritual power.”

Gu Xijiu could not hide her amusement. ”There you go, bluffing me again! I am not anyone special, why would the heaven treat me well?”

Di Fuyi responded with a smile. ”You are my wife, so the heavens will surely treat you better, to train you and make you as strong as possible.”

Gu Xijiu's face lighted up. ”Someday, I want to be as strong as you!” She wanted to stay by his side and watch as the world turned. She wanted to be a guardian of the continent, too.

Di Fuyi pulled her into his arms and responded briefly, ”You will.”

Gu Xijiu's eye gleamed with hopes. ”By the way, you said that you became a God through your practice, right? I could be a God too then. However, I do not plan to take your job away from you, I only intend to increase my lifespan so we can stay together for as long as we want.”

Di Fuyi's eyes darkened, but he hid it away with a smile. He placed his chin gently on her hair and caressed her gently. ”You can do it.”

Gu Xijiu was happy to have received his approval, even though it sounded like he was only saying it to make her happy.

Gu Xijiu was motivated. She wanted to become stronger when she was here. She wanted to be the one who could stand beside him and face anything together in times of trouble, not the one who was constantly under his protection.

She recalled something. ”By the way, why did the three beasts of level eight suddenly attack us? Was that a form to clear up space?” If it were not for Di Fuyi, most of the people here would already be long dead. That was a dangerous night. Gu Xijiu could still feel the lingering fear.

Di Fuyi shook his head. ”The clearance does not happen like that. That night was an accident.”

”That accident had something to do with you.”

”Did you mean that the beasts were here because of me?” She thought he meant that she brought bad luck.

Some of the evil energy that it has absorbed throughout the years was leaked as well, triggering the three dark hawks, hence the incident.”

Gu Xijiu finally understood the consequences of the mussel's action.
