484 The Killing at the City Gate (1/2)
Chen Zi thought for a moment before agreeing with a nod. Mo Wen indeed had nowhere to go to.
”There is a martial arts practitioner in Golden Elixir realm who is in charge of the Jianyou Sect in Panli City. We should get out of the city now before the Jianyou Sect reacts.” Zou Guangbo put the bamboo hat on his head again. They walked out of the yard quickly, carefully negotiating the narrow streets.
Fortunately, Zou Guangbo had been the Deputy Mayor of Panli City for decades so was very familiar with the layout of the city. There was no need to worry about getting lost.
However, they had only walked for a short distance when they realized that the streets and alleys were filled with people in law enforcement uniforms. They were patrolling rapidly as if they were looking for someone. The entire city seemed to be in turmoil.
”Oh no! The people of Jianyou Sect must already know about the death of Liu Jiang. Martial law is being enforced in the city.” Now Zou Guangbo was worried.
A troop of city law enforcement officers ran towards them from the opposite street. Zou Guangbo, who was leading the way, immediately dashed into an alley to hide. His face was extremely grave. He never expected the reaction of the Jianyou Sect to be so fast. The death of Liu Jiang had happened merely 15 minutes ago, yet the entire city was already under martial law.
At the same time, they realized that the walls of the streets and alleys were full of notices. On the notices were the portraits of Mo Wen and Chen Zi. There was even a bounty which had been set at a terrifyingly high amount.
Zou Guangbo laughed bitterly. ”They've actually announced a bounty.” Jianyou Sect wasn't pulling any punches. Now that a bounty had been announced, they would need to hide not only from the Law Enforcement Department of Panli City but would also need to be careful of the residents in the city as, if they discovered them, they would report them any time.
”What should we do then?” Chen Zi's brows furrowed slightly. She had never expected the situation to be so serious. If she had known before that Jianyou Sect were in control of Panli City, she definitely wouldn't have let Mo Wen kill Liu Jiang. They should at least have waited until they had left the city to kill him.
Now, the entire city was under martial law. They had become the scurrying rats which were condemned by everyone. The normal residents wouldn't care about the fight between the Intentionless Sect and the Jianyou Sect as they did not belong to any Sect, but with the bounty, they wouldn't hesitate to hand them over.
”What is there to be afraid of? Why should we be afraid of little Panli City and the Jianyou Sect?” Mo Wen's lips curled into a smile and he folded his arms.
”Don't be careless. There is a martial arts practitioner in the Golden Elixir realm of the Jianyou Sect in command of Panli City, and we don't know if the martial art practitioner in the Golden Elixir realm of the Sacred Flame Sect has left. If there are two martial arts practitioners in the Golden Elixir realm in the city, it may be dangerous for us.” Chen Zi's face was grave as she spoke. She knew that Mo Wen was very strong, and he was fearless, but he couldn't be impulsive or over-confident about this kind of thing. If the two martial arts practitioners in the Golden Elixir realm were to appear, they would face a huge amount of danger.
Moreover, Panli City had already fallen into the hands of the Jianyou Sect, so Panli City would definitely have many Jianyou Sect's martial arts practitioners in the Embryonic Breathing realm. It wouldn't be a problem with a few of them but when the number was great, they would be facing an extremely frightening power.
”We'll take the quietest route, then disguise ourselves a little. Now, let's try our best to avoid meeting that troop of law enforcers,” Zou Guangbo suggested. In their present situation, swaggering around would definitely make them stand out and they would be quickly discovered.
The left the alley and soon found a house which was empty. After ”borrowing” some clothes, they moved stealthily in the direction of the city gate.
Mo Wen had changed into a light gray sackcloth. He knew that leaving Panli City quietly and avoiding conflict with the martial arts practitioners of Jianyou Sect was the sensible thing to do. However, it was clear to him that Chen Zi and Zou Guangbo didn't have a particular talent for sneaking around.
The three of them were constantly traversing the complex streets of Panli City, sometimes heading in the wrong direction or taking an indirect route in order to hide from law enforcement officials. Mainly though, they were heading towards the northern city gate.
After a great deal of effort, it seemed as though their luck was holding. They had not been discovered. The northern city gate was getting closer, but the buildings were also getting less dense so it would be easier to spot them.
A distance away, the silhouette of the huge city wall was faintly visible. Zou Guangbo's eyesight was quite good and he could make out a constant movement of figures on the gate tower. It seemed though as if almost nothing was passing through the gate. ”Oh no!” he said. ”The city gate is closed and we can't get out.” Their options now were to break through by force or fly out. However, regardless of the method used, they would be exposed straight away.
Furthermore, in the Green Ancient Mystery Dimension, the gravity was ten times of that in the main space. Only the martial arts practitioners in the Golden Elixir realm had the ability to fly, but Zou Guangbo and Chen Zi wouldn't have that ability.
”We should have known that the Jianyou Sect would immediately close the city gate,” Chen Zi said, with a hostile expression on her face. Now that the city gate was closed, it was almost impossible for them to leave the city quietly.
”We should not make any rash moves. We can wait to see if we can break through at night.” Zou Guangbo furrowed his brows. It was almost impossible to break through in the day, but they might have a chance of breaking through under the cover of darkness.
”We don't need to wait for the night,” Mo Wen said.
