Chapter 68: Rescuing Grays Sister: Part 2 (1/2)

The three could be seen falling in the air. Their figures were all caught mid-air by Violet who had used telekinesis in time. Beneath them rested a dark void, they couldn't make out any figures.

Suddenly, Violet propelled them, including herself towards the nearby wall. As they levitated there, hidden in the shadows, they could see some of the horned ones climbing up the walls.

Fortunately for them, they hadn't been noticed as Violet managed to sneak them away fast enough. After Gray's gesture the three quickly descended.

Shortly after, they passed through a point which brought forth a change in the air around them. After that, they could finally see it. A long staircase leading downwards. Beside it was a pit so deep that even with Gray's evolved vision sight, he couldn't see the bottom.

Realizing this, it made him wonder. Just how far was he from his next evolution. The race read Halfling so didn't that mean that there was a complete evolution beyond it? And maybe even more?

What brought forth the evolution in the first place was the blood which belonged to the Chronos race being found by the system. Now that the system knows that he's a Halfling, maybe after reaching a certain level, other evolution options would be available.

Gray put the thought aside for now, but he knew it would definitely be a key in giving him an advantage in this battle.

[You have entered the labyrinth]

[New quest has been received!]

Upon hearing the notification, Gray quickly checked the contents of the quest. An upon doing so, his eyes widened. There was a slight but sudden change in his expression as it grew colder.

After landing, they were instantly greeted by the sickening, repulsive stench. It made sense as they were standing on a bundle of mutilated corpses belonging to either humans who had died from the fall or zombies themselves.

Either way it smelled horrible. It was no surprised that none of the horned ones were around.

”Do we take the staircase downwards?” Violet asked. ”I could fly as through the pit and take us to the bottom just to be safe…” She added.

That was a good idea but, Gray put it off.

”Nope, that'll drain too much of your energy. Wasting it now would be pointless. I have a faster method.”

”What would-”

Violet was interrupted as Gray suddenly picked her up once more, he did the same with Aurora.

”I mean… I don't hate it but… Do we have to be carried like this…?” Violet asked, her palms covering her face from the embarrassment. ”Also… Aren't we h-heavy?”

”Yeah. Surprisingly enough, you two are much heavier than you-”

Gray was interrupted by Aurora who suddenly covered his mouth with her palm. With a nervous smile, she glanced at Violet who's eyes had grown cold and lifeless. ”Is that so…” She uttered.

”Don't be like that Violet, he didn't mean it.” Said Aurora trying to comfort her.

Suddenly, Gray suddenly leapt off the staircase, down into the pit. As they plummeted towards the abyss, they could see themselves approaching the bottom of the staircase at high speeds.

During that moment, with a nonchalant expression Gray added. ”Nope, I did.”

After hearing that, a vein bulged out on Violet's forehead before she bit down on his arm, which was wrapped around her stomach. Gray's other hand suddenly grew colder as the temperature around Aurora's body dropped.

'Huh? Are they mad? What did they get mad for?' He wondered, before suddenly halting in the air, just beside the bottom of the staircase. They were only a few meters above the abyss after coming to a stop.

[Pause]

Now that they were here, Gray put them down onto the platform he had created. Slowly, from the abyss, they quietly peeked through the pillars beside the staircase to see if there were any guards ahead of the door which led to the first floor.

To their surprise, there was. Two blue ranks. Mid-ranks, The 2nd lowest weakest rank. Despite that, they were still horned ones. A race physically superior to humans. The expression their faces grew serious as they wondered how they would proceed.

They were left with nothing but surprise however, as right as they were about to question him, he had disappeared.

'Where did he go?!'
