Chapter 59: Squadron 0 (2/2)

They wore the United States military uniforms and carried a new type of badge on their shoulders. Once they stepped onto the cold, broken pavement, they couldn't help but glance up at the naval fleets flying above head.

Their attention instantly moved away from the fleets however, as they could see explosions going off in around the city. Now that they got a closer look, the city was nothing like how they remembered it.

The buildings were in ruins, many chunks of debris had collapsed onto the roads, countless apartments and facilities were broken down. The stench of blood filled the air as corpses dragged on as far as the eye could see.

The sight sunk deeply into their souls as they could feel a blooming rage gathering within them.

There were around twenty of them in total and they were all being led by a middle-aged man with a trimmed beard and a cigar on his mouth. He was the one driving the truck and the first one to speak after stepping out.

He released a puff of smoke as he opened his mouth. ”Squadron 0, you twenty are the chosen for minimizing the damage being caused, and pushing back the enemy force. This is a battlefield, do not hesitate to kill, otherwise, you will be killed. Are there any questions?”

One of them raised their hands. A female with long red hair, dropping down to her hips. She wore a cap which hid her expression.

”Wasn't the time spent on the training facility short? It's only been two weeks since we were recruited.”

This squadron contained a group of people who had joined the government of their own free will after awakening the ability and hearing the announcement. Thanks to joining they were given specialised care and taken away from the apocalypse to a training facility being run by the government.

Unlike the refugees, not much was known about these facilities. But the fact that they existed showed that the government had expected this to happen. If so, why send them out so early?

With only two weeks of training, it was surely suicide to send them to the battlefield. These were the thoughts going through their minds.

”You only need to last long enough for the main reinforcements to arrive. The others at the training facility aren't ready. Those who were ended up getting sent into the labyrinths. Squadron Zero, among you are one of our most powerful ability users.”

He took another puff of his cigar before throwing it away and grabbing the pistol in his holster.

”Truth be told, I do think we could have used a bit more time. There's no doubt this is suicide, but then again, if's the apocalypse. We're all dead either way.”

He was covered in injuries and had difficulties moving but was still fortunately able to make it here.

He made sure to stop by a pharmacy too and get all types of medications in hopes that one of them would be able to help out Kylo who was unconscious.

'Ah... That was close... Fortunately after eating the pill I felt all my energy return to me just like when I evolved. I also need to check out the shop which was unlocked after... I'll do everything once I'm home. Gray thought to himself as he approached the mansion garden.

There were quite a few zombies surrounding the vicinity of the mansion but they were neither mutated nor anything special so he dealt with them rather easily. After doing so he leapt up through the gates.

After doing so, however, his eyes widened. A single lard creater could be seen on the ground. After looking ahead, they almost seemed to bulge out as he could see explosions going off within the mansion.

There was a fight happening at this very moment. Zombies? No that wasn't it, he had cleared them all in the morning. Judging by the crater, it could only be one thing.

A horned one.

*KABOOM!*
